Long Term Individual Agreement (National) for Translation Services TOR Reference Number: 2012/15 UNICEF Maldives Country Office seeks highly qualified individuals to provide translation service for UNICEF Maldives. Duration of work: Two years Location: Male’ Specific Tasks: The contract will cover the following translation services: consecutive oral translation; simultaneous translations; written translation, including editing The translation services provided shall be: Accurate: reproducing as exactly as possible the meaning of the source text. Natural: using natural forms of the receptor language in a way that is appropriate to the kind of text being translated; Communicative: expressing all aspects of the meaning in a way that is readily understandable to the intended audience. Various formats will be made available by UNICEF to deliver/receive materials: hard copies and electronic files. Desktop publishing tools – scanning, image processing, page layout, graphic design – will be used by the contractor to follow the original document format. For original material containing complex graphic elements two format versions of translation will be made available by the contractor: Original material format; Version, containing text and graphic portions of the translation in two separate sections: a file, containing only the translated text, for exact calculation by number of characters; Graphic objects will be placed on A4 page; one full page with graphic elements is equivalent to one full text page. The reference term for one order execution from the moment of its acknowledgement shall be as follows: 48 hours for 10 pages; For large orders, the term of execution shall be agreed upon with the Programme Officer considering the specific characteristics of the text, degree of complexity of graphic elements and other execution related aspects. Payments for translated documents will be made based on the word count and applicable rate per word Technical Background and Experience Fluent in Dhivehi and English languages At least 3 years of experience in written translation Knowledge of UNICEF and other UN Agencies terminology; Previous work experience with UN or other International Organizations Proven experience of translation into/from English, Dhivehi of scientific texts in social sciences, public administration, health, education, management and related fields; 1 Ability to work under pressure; Ability to produce a high volume of quality content; Advanced computer skills, including word processing; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills Conditions The contractor will be hired on an ‘as-required’ basis under the terms of a Long-Term Agreement (LTA) in the form of an Individual contractor to be signed between UNICEF and the contractor. This LTA has no monetary value in its own right, and does not commit UNICEF to provide any work to the contractor following its signing. Any fees for work undertaken will be based upon those submitted in the official bid made by the contractor at the start of the selection process. The contractor will be paid for each piece of translation work undertaken, based on the agreed wordage fee indicated in their original bid. Wordage is based on the original text and not for the translated document The contractor will be based in their own office and will not have access to UNICEF office space or equipment The contractor will undertake to ensure that he/she has fully functional computer and email equipment at his/her office in order to meet the requirements of work provided by UNICEF. The contractor will ensure that his/her computer hardware and other systems are clear of viruses and other malicious software. The contractor will be required to ensure the safe electronic and physical storage of all UNICEF documents involved in the translation work, and ensure the safe electronic and physical transmittal of such documents. At the end of each assignment the contractor will be required to delete all electronic versions from his/her computers and other storage systems, and return any hard copies of such documents to UNICEF. UNICEF retains the right to inspect the contractor’s computers and other storage systems at any time during the period of this LTA to ensure that the above requirement is being upheld. The contractor may not reveal, transmit or otherwise share the contents of UNICEF documents with any other party other than his/her own staff and then only for purposes of translation. The contractor may not use UNICEF’s name or logo in any marketing, advertising, references or other commercial activities related to his/her business without written prior permission of UNICEF.
