My desire to visit somewhere warm is overwhelming, so we are off to North Queensland to visit Port Douglas and The Great Barrier Reef.
We are required to stay in Auckland on 2nd October before our flights to Cairns on the 3rd October with a transfer to Port Douglas.
Flights into Cairns and then a transfer to Port Douglas. Accommodation has been arranged at Mantra Portsea.
Twin share rooms and a continental breakfast each morning. On our day of arrival we will not plan any activities as I feel we will need to get accustomed to the tropical heat, and it will also be a great day to explore our hotel and surroundings. On the return we fly into Auckland late on the evening of the 9 th
so we stay another night in Auckland before returning to Hawke’s Bay on the 10 th.
Included in this WARM tropical holiday is
Cape Tribulation, Daintree Forest and Mossman Gorge
On this day we travel by coach through some of the oldest rainforest in the world, cruise on the Daintree
River, enjoy a delicious tropical lunch amongst the forest and then walk on the famous Cape Tribulation beach.
The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest Rainforest in the
World. It is a living museum of flora and fauna dating back 250 million years. There are close to 200 species of plants which only grow in the Wet Tropics, of which about 170 have been found north of the
Daintree River, with perhaps 30 of them growing only in the Daintree and nowhere else in the world.
Kuranda Rail and Skyrail:
On this day a trip on the Kuranda rail taking in the spectacular views as you wind up to the quaint
Village of Kuranda . In the village there are markets, and we also visit the Largest Butterfly Sanctuary in
Australia. Then your return journey is gliding peacefully on the Sky rail.
Barrier Reef Experience:
On this day we travel by an air conditioned catamaran to a magnificent ribbon reef on the Outer Great Barrier Reef. You can stay dry in a semi submersible coral viewing tour and underwater observatory, a marine biologist reef presentation, fish feeding presentation or snorkel and dive.
Morning and afternoon teas are supplied. We also enjoy a buffet lunch.
Flames of the Forest:
An evening under the spell binding, candlelit, enchanted rainforest. Enjoying sparkling wines and hors d’oeuvres on arrival. An aboriginal cultural performance with a didgeridoo and story telling, a tropical banquet with Australian wines and beers.
