Admission Requirements and Procedures for Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program Acceptance into the Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program is not guaranteed and is very competitive. There are currently large numbers of candidates applying to the nursing department for this program. Admission to the nursing program is based on (1) satisfactory completion of prerequisites, (2) overall Grade Point Average (GPA), (3) successful completion of an initial Bachelor’s degree, and (4) a sample of independently written work as demonstrated in a onepage professional statement. The following are criteria to be eligible for consideration for admission into the Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program A. The cumulative GPA for initial Bachelor’s degree must be at least a 3.0 in order to be admitted or readmitted into the college. B. Any course work completed since obtaining the initial Bachelor’s degree will also be considered in the admissions process. C. Grades in the prerequisite classes will be considered in the admissions process. D. The initial Bachelor’s degree AND all prerequisites for the nursing program must be completed prior to beginning the Bachelor to BSN: Second Degree Program. E. Students may receive PROVISIONAL acceptance into the Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program, and may begin the program as long as the initial Bachelor’s degree is earned AND all prerequisites are completed prior to starting the program. If not met, the student will not be able to start the program. F. Prerequisites that must be completed prior to starting the Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program: a. Two semesters of Anatomy and Physiology (must be taken at the same institution) b. College Chemistry (higher than a Chemistry 100 intro course) c. Microbiology d. Introduction to Psychology e. Introduction to Sociology f. Nutrition g. Statistics h. Developmental Assessment (must that cover the lifespan) G. To apply to the Bachelor's to BSN: Second Degree Program: a. Current Brockport students or previous Brockport graduates must complete a readmit application that can be obtained by contacting the Undergraduate Admissions office (395-2751 or admit@brockport.edu). b. Students who have a bachelor's degree from an institution other than The College at Brockport should complete the SUNY application which can be found online at: http://www.brockport.edu/admissions/apply/index.html. c. All students must complete a secondary application for the Department of Nursing which includes a one-page professional statement. NOTES: Applications for admission to the May class will be accepted between August 1st-October 1st of the year prior to beginning the second degree nursing program. Letters of acceptance will be sent out after December 1 after the applications are due and reviewed. It is possible for the class to be full early in the academic year. Students may apply to the traditional program as a nursing direct admit if seeking admission after the Bachelor’s to BSN: Second Degree Program annual class has been filled. Students who have earned an initial Bachelor’s degree from Brockport or other institution must be admitted directly into the major of nursing if accepted by the college, and may not be admitted as a nursing intent. Students in this program will be available for federal financial aid as long as not all federal financial aid has been used by the student for their previous degree. It is possible that students who have Bachelor’s degrees from private institutions may not have all general education requirements met, therefore should be advised accordingly. If students do not pay their deposit within three weeks of being admitted, they will be dropped from the summer cohort.
