Course Description
This course will help participants develop a greater understanding for how "apps" on tablets and
smartphones can be used in the clinic and in the classroom. Course materials and corresponding
discussion will focus on how these apps can potentially enhance patient treatment, improve student
learning and expand personal productivity. Although the principles will be applicable to any tablet or
smart phone, specific examples will be directed toward Apple products (iPhone, iPad and Mac).
Objectives
At the end of this short course, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe ways that tablets and smart phones can be incorporated into physical therapy clinical
environments to enhance examination, treatment, education and documentation.
2. Describe ways that tablets and smartphones can be incorporated into physical therapy
classroom environments to enhance student learning.
3. Identify specific apps that can be used to enhance clinical practice, classroom learning and
personal productivity.
4. List potential barriers to using tablets and smart phones in clinical and classroom settings.
