Cochran Assistant Executive Director Illinois Area 5 District Report Greeting Brothers of the Great District of Illinois Theta Mu Lambda Theta Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (TML) is celebrating 50 years of “Brotherhood and Service”. TML was established on December 12, 1963 in Joliet, Illinois. Since that date, TML has proven to be a leaders among fraternities in mentoring youth, voter’s registration, P.A.D.S, (Public Action To Deliver Shelter), Boy Scouts of America, working with local colleges and schools, and other Greek letter organizations to help improve the quality of life in the south suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The members of TML have worked tirelessly to implement the goals of the Fraternity’s mission statement for the past 50 years. The statement reads: “Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated develops leaders, promotes Brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities”. Doing the Work of Alpha The members of TML began the 2013 fraternal year by asking ourselves, “How can we do what we do... better?” In striving to answer this question, the Chapter made sure that it was at full delegate strength for all Leadership meetings and Conferences at the local, District, Regional and National levels of the Fraternity. The Chapter was present with the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority during the March of Dimes “March for Babies” and assisted the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority with their “Breakfast with Santa” and EMBODI programs. The Chapter worked with Prairie State College and provided ties and leadership for their “Ties that Bind” program. TML mentored and provided educational enrichment to young African-American males students through its Leaders For Tomorrow Program. At its conclusion, TML hosted a banquet that recognized the students for their time, efforts and accomplishments during the program’s term. TML also provided leadership in planning and implementing the Fraternity’s Leadership Development Institute that was hosted at Northern Illinois University and was attended by youth from the entire Midwestern region of the United States. The Chapter assisted the New Faith Baptist Church of Matteson, Illinois with its “Angel Tree Program by delivering Christmas gifts to children of incarcerated parents. These gifts were distributed to children throughout the Chicago area. Members from the Chapter provided winter clothing to children in the Kankakee area. This year Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation awarded a total of $9,000.00 in scholarship funds to 10 deserving students from funds raised during its annual Black and Gold Scholarship Gala. Theta Mu Lambda Chapter - Calendar Year of Activities January 2013 Hosted an “Informational Meeting” for men who were interested in joining Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Brothers attended the Inauguration of General President Mark S. Tillman in Detroit, Michigan. The Leaders For Tomorrow youth mentoring program began with 25 students and their parents at Prairie State College. Brothers attended Iota Delta Lambda’s Chapter annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program in downtown Chicago. Brothers worked four full shifts for the P.A.D.S. Program Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. February 2013 Brothers from Theta Mu Lambda Chapter attended the Illinois District Conference Theta Mu Lambda Chapter hosted a play in celebration of Black History Month at the ETA Theater in Chicago. Brothers worked four full shifts for the P.A.D.S. Program Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. Brothers participated in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated EMBODI program at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. elementary school located in Dixmoor, Illinois. March 2013 Theta Mu Lambda provided leadership and more than 50 new ties to the Prairie State College “Ties that Bind” Program. Brothers worked four full shifts for the P.A.D.S. Program Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. Brothers and aspirants served as cooks and servers for the Boy Scouts at New Faith Baptist. Approximately $1,000.00 was raised for the Boy Scouts. Illinois Representative from the Illinois 38th Legislative District Brother Representative Al Riley presented at the Leaders For Tomorrow Program. On March 29, 2013 students from the Leaders For Tomorrow attended an Open House at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. April 2013 Brothers attended the Regional Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. Brothers participated in the March of Dimes “Walk For Babies”. More than $3,200.00 was raised by Theta Mu Lambda Chapter. Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. Participants in the Leaders For Tomorrow Program hosted a Mock Trial at Prairie State College. Brothers worked four full shifts for the P.A.D.S. Program May 2013 Brothers attended Alpha Day at the Illinois State Capitol where they met with their respective elected representatives in Springfield, Illinois. Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. Theta Mu Lambda initiated seven members into its Alumni chapter and four College Brothers into Nu Delta Chapter on the campus of Chicago State University. June 2013 Brothers attended Rho Zeta Lambda’s Chapter Prayer Breakfast in Hillside, Illinois. Theta Mu Lambda Chapter hosted its Leaders For Tomorrow Banquet at the Ray and Joan Kroc Center in Chicago, Illinois. Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. Brothers attended the Pan-Hellenic Picnic. Brothers attended the Fraternity’s National Convention held in Austin, Texas. July 2013 On July 26 through July 28, 2013 eighteen students from the Leaders For Tomorrow students attended the Leadership Development Institute at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Provide financial support for a Leaders For Tomorrow student to attend the National Boy Scouts of America Jamboree in West Virginia from July 15, 2013 to July 24, 2013. Theta Mu Lambda Chapter hosted its annual picnic in Oak Forest, Illinois. Theta Mu Lambda Chapter hosted its annual Golf Outing in University Park, Illinois. August 2013 Theta Mu Lambda Chapter participated in the Bud Billiken Day Parade. September 2013 Brothers attended a District Leadership Meeting in Aurora. Brothers attended the Xi Lambda Labor Day Breakfast Brothers attended the Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field. Leaders For Tomorrow mentoring program hosted an parent orientation meeting. October 2013 Theta Mu Lambda Chapter hosted a Chapter Retreat at Prairie State College. Brothers attend a Regional Leadership Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. Brothers worked four full shifts for the P.A.D.S. Program Brothers served as delegates to the Pan Hellenic Council of Chicago. November 2013 Brothers and students from the Leaders For Tomorrow Program attend Project Alpha at Dyett School in Chicago. 1. Theta Mu Lambda Chapter and Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation hosted its annual Scholarship Gala in Matteson, Illinois. 2. December 2013 3. Brothers participated in New Faith Baptist Church’s Angel Tree Program. 5. Brothers participated in the Kankakee, Illinois area coat drive by contributing winter outer wear. Nu Delta Chapter Doing the Work of Alpha The members of Nu Delta began the 2013 fraternal year by asking ourselves, “How can we ensure the Alpha Legacy at Chicago State University?” In striving to answer this question, the Chapter made sure we were in compliance to participate in IMDP. The Chapter celebrated the graduation of five members and the initiation of four. The Chapter continues to strive to continue the work of Alpha throughout the year even with low numbers. Nu Delta Chapter – 2013 Calendar Year of Activities January 2013 Brothers attended a college preparation activity at Impact Family Center. February 2013 Brothers from Nu Delta Chapter attended the Illinois District Conference. March 2013 Brother attended after school mentoring program at Impact Family Center. April 2013 Brothers attended the Regional Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nu Delta initiated four College Brothers into the Chapter. Brothers participated in the March of Dimes “Walk For Babies”. May 2013 Brothers attended Alpha Day at the Illinois State Capitol where they met with their respective elected representatives in Springfield, Illinois. June 2013 Nu Delta Chapter hosted its annual Chapter picnic. 2 Brothers attended Alpha Leadership Academy. Brothers attended the March for Non-Violence at St. Sabina.
