Position Title:

Graduate Assistant for Leadership and Learning

Dean of Students Office, Webster University

Position Overview:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Leadership and Learning assists with comprehensive coordination, support, delivery, and assessment of student leadership development programs and learning community programs at

Webster University. Efforts of this GA role will support student leadership and student learning initiatives emerging within the University’s new and evolving strategic plan. The position requires acceptance to, and enrollment in, a Webster University graduate program as full-time graduate student, and is renewable for a second year. The GA is dually supervised by the Associate Dean of Students (regarding student leadership development) and the Director of First Year Experience Programs (regarding learning communities).

Primary Responsibilities:

Student Leadership Development Programs:

 Oversee coordination of WebsterLEADS, the University’s Leadership Certificate program

 Coordinate Leadership Scholar Orientation at the beginning of the fall semester

 Coordinate meetings with new & returning students regarding progress toward the Certificate

 Manage the co-curricular transcript program in collaboration with Career Planning and Development

 Represent WebsterLEADS at University involvement fairs and prospective student events

 Assist with coordination, recruitment, and facilitation of annual leadership development retreats

 Manage WebsterLEADS social media presence

 Serve on the Leadership Advisory Group within the Division of Student Affairs

 Supervise Student Program Coordinator(s)

 Coordinate induction ceremony for Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) national leadership honor society

Learning Community (LC) Initiatives:

 Schedule monthly LC stakeholder meetings

 Train and advise LC Connection Leaders regarding their individual LC students and event schedule

 Organize and execute LC programs including Orientation, end of Fall semester, individual LC event calendars featuring at least three planned programs (approximately forty events each academic year)

 Provide resource materials to Connection Leaders and LC faculty members regarding event planning,

 student schedules, student applications, and stakeholder meeting minutes

Maintain communication through a variety of marketing efforts including the use of social media

Maintain detailed records of current balances and expenses

Assist with marketing efforts incoming LC students, including updating/creating marketing materials

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and acceptance/enrollment in a graduate program at Webster is required

Significant undergraduate leadership experience and/or experience with academic initiatives preferred

Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and oral)

Demonstrated capacity in the following areas: o Strong project and time management skills o Ability to work autonomously, display initiative, and seek guidance when necessary o Exhibit a professional attitude with many different University constituents o Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Excel o Commitment to diversity and a University mission that is intentionally international in nature

Dates of Appointment:

2015-2016 academic year (August 15 – May 15)

Appointment is renewable for 2nd year based on performance

Terms of Compensation:

Must be enrolled in 9 credit hours of graduate courses per semester

Must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA

Hours of Work: Not to exceed 20 hours per week

Payment: $12,000 payable in equal installments on a bi-weekly basis

Scholarship: $2,993 (the amount equivalent to 50% of current graduate tuition at on-ground rate) o Note: The scholarship amount is non-taxable, which is a great benefit to students
