Letter Writing
For this task you are required to write 2 letters.
1. Write an honest letter from Stanley to his parents about what’s actually going on
at Camp Green Lake. Use descriptive language, relating back to relevant scenes
in the film. 200-250 words
2. Write a response letter back to Stanley from his parent’s. How might they
react/what would they write back after receiving his letter? 200-250 words

Letter One
1. In dot-points describe Stanley’s first day at Camp Green Lake
Guiding Questions:
 What were Stanley’s first impressions of Camp Green Lake?
 What was Mr Sir’s attitude towards Stanley?
 How much access is there to water?
 What does Stanley have to do every day all day at camp?
 How do the other boys at the camp treat Stanley?
2. In dot-points describe Stanley’s second day at Camp Green Lake









Guiding Questions:
How early did Stanley have to get up in the morning?
How big do the holes need to be?
Who stole Stanley’s shovel and why?
Do the boys get enough water?
What is the weather like when they dig their holes?
Who is the fastest digger at the camp?
Who is left digging their hole when Stanley finishes?
What is the camp food like?
What is Stanley’s bedroom like? Does he have to share with anyone? Do
they look like comfortable beds?
3. Put these dot-points into sentences – make sure to refer back to scenes in
the movie
4. Remember to address the letter to Stanley’s mum and dad ‘Dear Mum and
Dad’ and to end it with ‘From Stanley’ or something of a similar notion.
Letter Two
1. Choose 5 points that you talked about in your first letter
2. Put yourself in Stanley’s mum’s shoes and react to them.
3. What would his mum say to how her son is being treated at Camp Green
Lake?
4. Remember to address the letter to Stanley and to write who it is from at
the bottom.
