The letters of the alphabet have a special order that they follow. Once we practice putting letters in order we’re going to learn about putting words into ABC order. ABC order means that you look at the first letter of a word and put them in order according to the letters of the alphabet. Teacher Models Task Teacher needs to pull up one of the first two websites listed. Demonstrate playing Whack a Mole or the ABC order train. For Whack a Mole show the student how to use the mouse to hit the mole that has the appropriate letter of the alphabet. The student should be hitting the letter of the alphabet that comes next. If you decide to play the ABC order train the student will need to drag the correct barrel to put on the train. The teacher should show the student this process 2 or 3 times. Teacher and Students Practice Task Together Teacher and student will practice together. Make sure to discuss why the student is putting a particular letter next. Ask the student how he knows that letter comes next. Students Practice Task Students will work independently to practice putting letters in order. Independent Practice Student continues working independently. Once the student has put letters in order correctly multiple times the teacher should move the student into putting words into order. Teacher Explains Task Now, the teacher should pull up the last website provided. Students will now be putting words into ABC order. Remind the student what it means to put words into ABC order, which was discussed previously. Teacher Models Task After pulling up the website, show the student how to put the words into the correct order. Model how you use the alphabet on the bottom of the page to check your work. Teacher and Students Practice Task Together Teacher will help the student through the first 2 games. Make sure to discuss why the student is putting a word next. Ask the student how he knows that word comes next. Students Practice Task Students will work independently to practice ABC order. Independent Practice Student continues working independently. Once the student has gotten the words into correct order multiple times, go to the next level and the student continues with independent practice.
