I am currently attending the University of Manitoba, on the path of obtaining my B.Sc. in Physical Geography, specializing in Atmospheric Sciences. With a strong interest in weather phenomena, I have taken several courses in that area. I am very interested in being part of this exciting opportunity and learning experience. My volunteer experiences have included being a part of The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network where I have had hands-on experience collecting precipitation data through the use of a precipitation gauge and snow ruler. These measurements are provided for the use of professionals and the public. I also took part in developing and implementing the Climate Change in the Arctic breakout session at this year's MEIA Sustainable Futures Career Expo. The session explored the physical changes that are currently and projected to occur in the Arctic region due to climate change. I also participate in the University of Manitoba Weather Club, which held a workshop on Numerical Models. This workshop provided the basic uses and limitations of numerical models. I have extension experience working with the public and in project management through skills I obtained through employment as a supervisor at A&W. I have the ability to work in a time constrained environment while under pressure. I have extensive knowledge of personal computers skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheet software. I am involved in numerous social media such as Twitter and Facebook. I possess excellent verbal skills and am able to work independently as well as in a team environment. I feel my qualifications would be a strong match for this position. I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss this amazing opportunity. I can be reached at (204) 801-5407 or by email at derkaczk@myumanitoba.ca. Thank for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Katlyn Derkacz B.Sc. (Physical Geography) Candidate
