Australian 420 Class National Championship Pre-Event Measurement Inspection Guide
The intended checks and applicable Class Rules are typically as follows:
Certification Validity
The boat shall have a valid Measurement Certificate which shall be presented for inspection- Ref.
Class Rule B.1, A.12, A.13 (Also see: http://www.yachting.org.au/sport-services/ratings-andcertificates/measurement-certificates/)
Any correctors listed on the measurement certificate shall be present in the boat - Ref. Class Rule
D.6
Safety
Internal Buoyancy shall be present in the boat - Ref. Class Rule D.3.3
Personal Flotation Device for helm and crew shall be available and compliant - Ref. Class Rule C.3.1
Each boat shall have a tow rope correctly installed - Ref. Class Rule C.5.2
Boat's name and sail number shall be clearly marked externally on the hull or transom with
minimum 50mm text - YA Special Regulations Part 2 Sect. 4.01.1 and 4.01.3 (a) and (b)
Hull
Hull Weight when rigged for racing is a minimum of 100Kg - Ref. Class Rule C.6.1 (to be weighed dry
with mast down and all equipment in the boat excluding sails, tow rope and PFDs)
Spars
Spinnaker pole length shall be a maximum of 1750mm - Ref. Class Rule F.4.5
Limit marks (Black Bands) shall be present on the mast - Ref. Class Rule F.2.6.18
Device to prevent mainsail being set above the mast's upper limit mark shall be present if
required (mainsail stopper at top black band) - Ref. Class Rule F.2.6.19
Limit marks (Black Bands) shall be present on the boom - Ref. Class Rule F.3.5.1.6
Device to prevent mainsail being set outside the boom's outer limit mark shall be present (mainsail
stopper at boom's black band) - Ref. Class Rule F.3.5.1.5
Trapeze wires may be substituted for rope over a maximum length of 500mm from the handholdRef. Class Rule F.5.1.2
Black Band positions may be checked.
Sails
Sails shall be previously measured and have Class Association button or button sticker attached Ref. Class Rule G.2.1 and G.2.2
Red Rhombus shall be present on mainsail for all teams competing in the girls division - Ref. Class
Rule C.10.3.1(c)
Sail numbers shall be present and correct on both the mainsail and the spinnaker Ref. Class Rule
C.10.3.1 and C.10.5.1
A general visual inspection of fittings will take place for compliance with the class rules.
