Education is a gift that none can take away.

Week of August 31 – Here comes September, and it is hard to believe we have been in school almost a
month. I hope in this short time every student and educator in Winona School District has added to
their personal “gift that none can take away.” Education does not come easy and it does not happen
without forethought, planning, reflection, and adjustment. Teaching is hard work – there is no doubt
about it.
I believe education is the key to many things in this world – reducing poverty, building communities,
eradicating inequality, preserving natural resources, refining products, and improving health. Education
is a very personal journey and getting a quality education will lead people to stability, confidence, safety,
health, wealth, and good character. Those who are fortunate enough to have the gift of a good
education are innovators, communicators, inventors, problem solvers, and motivators. These people
work hard, have and become role models, become independent, and engage in research about the
world, politics, religion, medicine, philosophy and education.
Education comes in many forms – music, art, technology, career/technical, reading, math, history,
science – and is received in all sorts of ways - through vision, hearing, movement, or any combination of
these learning styles. It is great to know that, “Education is a gift that none can take away” and that we
get to be a part of giving that gift every single day.
