We look forward to welcoming you to Cork, the second largest city in the Irish Republic and,
according to Lonely Planet 2010, the third top city in the world to visit.
The following information is a guide only and conference delegates should make their own
arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc.
Please note that the conference is being held in the vicinity of Washington Street, Western
Road, Lancaster Quay, Mardyke, College Road on the western edge of the city centre. This
area is about 5-15 minutes’ walk from the city centre.
University College Cork is situated to the west of Cork city centre, and about 10 minutes
walk from Patrick Street (main street). From Patrick Street go left on to Grand Parade,
then right on to Washington Street, which shortly becomes Western Road. The main
pedestrian entrance to the university is at the intersection of Western Road and O’Donovan
Road. The main vehicular entrance is on College Road (left on to O’Donovan Road and
right on to College Road).

Please note that Cork is the name of both the city and county, therefore, it is
advisable to enter the term ‘cork city’ when conducting a web search.
Cork is situated about fifteen miles from the south coast of Ireland. It is accessible by air,
rail, road and sea.
Cork Airport is situated about 5 miles south of the city and is served by direct flights from
the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Aer Lingus/British Airways and Ryanair are
the main carriers. There are direct flights to Cork from Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh,
Glasgow, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Manchester, and
Newcastle. Direct flights from Continental Europe include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Munich,
Paris (Charles De Gaulle) and Rome (Fiumicino). The airport website (www.corkairport.com)

International travellers are advised to consider changing for Cork at London, Paris, or
Amsterdam.
Taxis are readily available at the airport, and there is also a regular bus service to the city
centre.

Trains run c. every hour between Cork (Kent Station, Lr. Glanmire Road) and Dublin
(Heuston Station). Timetables and other information are available on <www:irishrail.ie>.
Air Coach operates a bus service every two hours from 7am to 7pm between Cork and
Dublin (including Dublin Airport). Timetables etc., are on their website www.aircoach.ie.
Bus Eireann operates long distance bus services from Cork to Dublin, Limerick, Galway and
