Gull Lake Middle School
Graduating Leaders Honors Program
2014-2015
You are formally invited to join the Gull Lake Middle School Graduating Leaders
Honor Program!
All eighth grade students achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or greater are
eligible and based on your scores from the previous trimester, we would love to
have you become part of the organization.
Please take this home to your parents or guardians and get their permission. This
organization will have meetings after school, service activities outside of school,
Tuesday and Thursday (2:35-3:30 at school) opportunities for you to help tutor
another student (the hour counts as community service), and requires 12 hours of
community service per trimester. (Note: The requirements are waived for the first
trimester, since this is the first year of the program.) Students will be responsible
for all accounting of community service hours.
You will be expected to maintain this grade point average and if you do not,
you will be notified by letter. This service based organization is intended to create
leaders and to provide incentive for students to maintain higher grades. You will
remain members throughout the year once you are invited into the organization,
but if you do not finish the year with a 3.5 GPA or above, the notice of
membership will not be included in your file transferring to the high school.
Kim Ditto, Counselor at Gull Lake Middle School will serve as your Advisor,
and the organization will be led by a group of officers appointed by the members.
Mrs. Ditto will hold two 30 minute lunches each month with the members and one
early morning meeting once monthly, in which the student will miss 30 minutes of
their advisory period. In these meetings, membership business will be completed
and Mrs. Ditto will teach leadership skills according to the skill building novel,
“The Leader In Me”, by Stephen R. Covey. It is our hope this organization will
foster leaders, a better understanding of future careers, and create better citizens.
For more information: Please call or email, Kim Ditto, Counselor Gull Lake
Middle School or go to her webpage on the school site and look for the Gull Lake

2014-2015
Gull Lake Middle School is forming a Graduating Leaders Honors Program, made
up of eighth grade students whose grade point averages are 3.5 and above. These
students will be required among other things, to perform 12 hours of community

set up tutoring opportunities every Tuesday and Thursday after school from
2:35-3:30 pm. Teachers and volunteer adults will be available as well. In these
tutoring sessions, Graduating Leader students will be matched up with students
who need tutoring and organizational skills. Attendance is not mandatory.
Mrs. Ditto, GLMS Counselor, is director of the program. If you should have any
questions, please call or email Mrs. Ditto. More information on the program is
available at Mrs. Ditto’s GLMS website.
I give my permission for my student, ___________________________________

note for the bus driver, or need to be picked up by no later than 3:30pm –
preferably in front of the school. I further understand that my student must adhere
