Good Friday Collection The daily news reminds us of the violence and instability
plaguing the Middle East, but we rarely hear of the shrinking Christian community
there, a community that struggles to remain in the land of Christ’s birth, death and
resurrection. Please help support our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land by giving
to the special Good Friday Collection. This Pontifical Collection allows the
Franciscans and others to continue caring for Christianity’s holiest sites and for God’s
people in the Holy Land. Please be generous in your support.
NOVENA AND FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY:
The Feast of Divine Mercy will be celebrated here at St. Luke on Sunday, May 1st at
3:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring their children to share this form of
expression of our faith and teach them of Christ’s love for all of us. Confession, one of
the requirements to obtain a Plenary Indulgence, will be available between 1:30-2:45
pm. The celebration will include a Procession & Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament,
the Divine Mercy prayers and chaplet, prayers in honor of Blessed John Paul II, and
blessing of Religious articles. Refreshments will follow in the Social Hall.
The 9 day Novena, leading to the Feast, will begin on Good Friday following the 3 pm
Stations of the Cross, and at 3 pm on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday (4/24) through
Friday (4/29) the Novena will be sung in church at 6:30 pm, and on
Saturday (4/30) at 5:00 pm, BEFORE the 5:30 Mass. If you can’t join us
at Church, please pray the Daily Prayer Intentions and Chaplet at home
using today’s bulletin insert.
FROM THE DIVINE MERCY WEBSITE
Three conditions for the plenary indulgence
The Supreme Pontiff, motivated by an ardent desire to foster in Christians
this devotion to Divine Mercy as much as possible in the hope of offering great spiritual
fruit to the faithful, in the Audience granted on June 12, 02, to those Responsible for
the Apostolic Penitentiary, granted the following Indulgences:
a plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession,
Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful
who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or
chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial
sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy, or who, in the
presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the
Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus
(e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!");
A partial indulgence, granted to the faithful who, at least with a contrite heart, pray to
the merciful Lord Jesus a legitimately approved invocation.
Evening of Discernment. Catholic men, 18 and older, who may be discerning a call to
ordained priesthood, are invited to the monthly Evening of Discernment, Wednesday,
April 27th at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. The evening begins with Mass at 5:30pm.
