Dr. Lowery,
TKE Engineering & Design, Inc., a recognized leader in the design, procurement and
construction of Mid-stream Solutions for the Oil & Gas Industry, is currently seeking a recent
Civil Engineering graduate to train into their design staff. Projects include natural gas pipeline,
storage facilities, interconnects, and compressor stations. TKE engineers delve into many
different disciplines including structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical design with some time
dedicated to field experience. We are looking specifically for driven leaders that can be molded
from associate engineers to project managers.
On a personnel note, I came to Dr. Lowery a couple of years ago seeking advice as I had both
jobs offers in the civil industry and the energy industry. Without a doubt, the energy industry was
the best choice for me. Compared to the civil firms that I worked for in the past, TKE has been
able to not only maintain my civil educational foundation but broaden my knowledge base with a
focus on mechanical design. Although, Dr. Lowery wouldn’t give me a straight answer he
certainly made my decision a bit clearer.

Dear Mr. Lowery, it was a pleasure talking to you.
As I mentioned, I opened my civil & structural engineering firm back on October 2011, and
fortunately I’m getting enough work that I’m in the need of help.
I’m looking for a recent civil engineering graduate who really desires to work and is willing to
learn. He or she needs to know how to work with AutoCAD software.
I currently have the opportunity for two people. I have a lot of civil design work, commercial
site development design mostly, which includes storm drainage, water, wastewater, paving,
grading, storm water management, flood plain management, traffic, transportation, and public
works.
If you know anybody interested in this job opportunity please tell them to contact me at any time

Subject: Summer internship – GME Consulting - Dallas
Hello Lee –
Once again we are looking for summer interns. I am attaching the description (it hasn’t changed in the
past several years!) but I want to emphasize that our interns MUST have their own truck or SUV – they
WILL be hauling concrete cylinders and wheel barrows in their vehicles during the course of the summer.
It is underlined and in bold print, but I guess it goes unnoticed by some individuals. This really is a
working internship with field experience – not just an office job filing or hanging out.
Thanks so much for all the help you can provide!

sites, and we're looking for a summer intern to help manage our growth and learn about master planned
development projects. Responsibilities for the position will include assistance with entitlements (including
establishing budgets and schedules for projects, as well as coordinating zoning and platting for new

Subject: Avaliable Summer Internship with Tarsco
Dr. Lowery,
Good morning! I took several classes from you when I was working on my BS and MEng at
A&M between 2004 and 2008. I enjoyed those classes thoroughly.
A couple of years ago I hired a student for a summer internship through a posting on the listserv
(at my previous company) and ended up with a very eager and productive summer intern. I’ve
since switched companies and am in the process of growing the engineering and design
department at Tarsco. (http://www.tarsco.com/)
I know we are a little late to the game, but we have an excellent opportunity for a Freshman,
Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Civil Engineering Student. I’ve attached the brief job
description. This will be a paid internship. The compensation will be determined based upon the
individual candidates experience (between $13/hr and $16/hr).
Thanks and Gig ‘em.

Part Time Project Coordination
Dr Lowery –
Thanks for talking with me this morning. MBF normally manages 5 or 6 USAID construction
grants under the ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad) program. These projects are
supposedly turnkey using approved architectural firms in central African countries, India and
Haiti. Most of the job will involve posting the reports from the architect and Clerk of Works on
MBF’s reporting system as well as using that information to report to ASHA on a quarterly basis
(or more often if there is a problem).
This job was done very well part time for 20 years by a retired engineer from Chrysler. There is
actually a pretty wide range of people who could be qualified to do it. I will expect to teach the
person how to deal with our software as well as how to complete the needed government
reports. Any project management experience the person has had will be helpful, especially in
spotting problems that he/she needs to blow the whistle on. Future possibilities may even extend
to performing architectural or engineering work on the grants themselves if the person is
qualified and wants to go into that. Where the person lives is totally unimportant so long as they
have internet access.
MBF is a Christian charity. You mentioned that a retired person might even be willing to do a
part time job like this for no money. While I am always glad to get volunteers, this is an
important job, so I’m flexible on the pay issue.

Pay scale's not great for government jobs, but Greater Metropolitan Ft. Hood is

bachelor’s degree as well. We have the job posted on the A&M career center site but have not
received any feedback yet. I am hoping that you may know of someone and could direct them

New position opening at HOBAS PIPE USA
Dr. Lowery,
I am writing to inform you of a new position that will open up starting next year (January, 2015) in our
engineering department for Hobas Pipe USA. I recalled that you used to publish job openings for all
the civil engineer students and I was hoping you can add this great position to the list. We have
already added a company profile to the A&M’s Career Center website as well. We are seeking a
sharp, hard-working recent graduate (summer or December 2014) for an Applications Engineering
Associate position. The job requires a solid background of the general concepts for civil engineering.
Knowledge of 3D-mechanical CAD design programs (Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks etc) and
experience with AutoCAD is preferred as well. A general description of some of the job
responsibilities are listed below:
- Reviews project plans and specifications for pipe supply opportunities (bids & preliminary)
followed by a “Technical Spec Review” summary to document and communicate the project
requirements (bid opportunities) and potential problems.
- Prepares submittal documents (including submittal additions or revisions as needed) for
orders secured to describe the products we will be supplying.
- Prepares pipe performance calculations for various types of installations and project
conditions.
- Designs and draws project specific fittings using Inventor or Autocad that will be used by
contractors or engineers for approval and then by production department for manufacturing.
- Provide technical support via phone, email, and meetings to sales, production, commercial,

capabilities, performance, selection, specification, advantages and limitations.

country. We have aggies working throughout the company including our President and CEO Edward

Employer: OHL USA, Inc.
Position: Assistant BD Project Manager
Job Description: OHL is seeking an engineering graduate to come and work with us in Austin in
Business Development. OHL is a large international construction company, but we hire
engineering firms to help us pursue, win and construct Design-Build projects. So who better to
manage this process than an engineer? Well - an engineering graduate.
Design-Build is a (relatively) new delivery method (to certain infrastructure) in the USA and we
need to train someone from the ground up to identify commercial and technical risks, think
outside the box, lead meetings and large multi-disciplinary teams and tell certain government
agencies just exactly what private industry thinks about their ideas. (I should point out, this is
sort of a business position, so there won’t be much in the way of actually sitting at a desk and
designing, there will be a fair amount of proposal content writing and contract reading - but
business development people get to go to a lot of free lunches, so that’s a bonus.)
Right now we focus on building roads with a preferred project size of over $100 M (up to well
past a billion) per project (for example, here’s a job we are chasing right now:
http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/houston/sh288-toll-lanes.html), but we are
just in our third year here in Texas and we will grow by looking at high speed rail opportunities,
water opportunities, ports, airports - basically anything that a general contractor could perform;
and you will have the opportunity to grow, rapidly, right alongside with us.
Here is our website: www.ohlusa.com – but it is in the process of being redone and our
international website looks a lot better: http://www.ohl.es/en/
76
One last bonus: I was class of 06 and you’d be learning the ropes from me. I am a regular poster
on TexAgs and so we would have frequent discussions on what Kenny Hill’s nickname should
be.
Please send an email and resume to jkuhr@ohlusa.com if you’re interested in the position.
Thanks.
