A Special Note from Mrs. Lee Parents, I have had many animals and insects in my classroom for the children to care for and observe. I have had snakes, tarantulas, fish, frogs, rabbits, turtles and even a salamander…just to name a few. I need to know if any of your children are allergic to any type of animal or if they would have trouble having an animal or insect in the classroom. I have a tarantula that has been with me for six years and I have a hamster and a very small rat snake. In the beginning, some children are a bit apprehensive about having unfamiliar animals or insects in the classroom. However, once they observe and learn about the animals, they begin to appreciate the experience. I observe all safety precautions in regards to the children and the animals. A veterinarian will visit the classroom monthly to check on the health of the animal as well. I do not force a child to hold, feed or observe an animal or insect if they are not comfortable. It is their decision. Also, I will not have any animal in the classroom that will harm a child or an adult. For example, we just observe my tarantula. I do all the feeding and cleaning of the cage. I do allow her to crawl on my arm occasionally. :0) Please fill out the bottom portion of this note by checking the phrase that you prefer and return to me.
