ACADEMIC GENERAL
PEDIATRICS TRAINING PROGRAM

The Department of Pediatrics at OUHSC is accepting applications for its training program in Academic
General Pediatrics. This training program is part of a larger training initiative that includes Clinical
Psychology, Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine as well as General Pediatrics.
This program offers a unique opportunities to study a wide variety of research topics across a
spectrum of health disciplines. Fellows can participate in ongoing research programs in, among others,
vaccine delivery, obesity, smoking cessation, global health and medical education. Supporting the
research programs are a practice-based research network (Oklahoma Child Health Research Network
[http://octsi.ouhsc.edu/ochrn]), a secondary data analyses group and an active collaboration with
Native American Tribes. Faculty and fellows are nationally funded, have been published in nationallyrecognized peer-reviewed journals, and present at regional and national conferences.
Program:
The Academic General Pediatrics Training Program is a two-to-three year program strongly oriented
toward research training. It involves course work in the Masters of Clinical Translational Science or in
Public Health. There are opportunities to teach residents and medical students. Fellows can orient their
research and/or their clinical experience toward inpatient, outpatient or community settings with an
emphasis on primary care.
Program participants identify an area of research interest, and receive guidance and mentorship
to encourage growth and experience as a researcher. Additionally, the option to earn an MPH in
Epidemiology or Biostatistics, or an MS in Clinical Translation Science is available.
The program is committed to identifying sources of loan repayment for fellows. Both faculty and
fellows have successfully competed for NIH Loan Repayment Program funding.
Eligibility:
Post-doctoral degree, board eligible or certified, with an interest in a career in general academic
pediatrics, and must be a US citizen or permanent resident. Women and monitory candidates are
strongly encouraged to apply.
