INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1 1 2 3 5 6 Magazine Sales 8th Grade Field Trip News from the Music Department The eighth graders made their annual trip to Springfield to study both Lincoln’s contributions and the state government operations. They toured many Lincoln sites including his home, tomb, and the Lincoln Presidential Museum. The different war memorials honoring those who fought and died in the Korean War, WWII, and the Vietnam War provided a solemn reminder to everyone that freedom is not free. The highlight of the trip was in impromptu invitation from Secretary of State Jesse White to tour his office. Secretary White spent a great deal of time relating his past experiences and stressing the importance of a positive attitude and a good education. Overall, the students had a day packed with learning and fun. Remembering the Veteran’s What’s Going on? Make your own Gift Tags and Christmas Cards Newsletter 1 News from the Music Department Greetings from the music room which has been a flurry of activity for several weeks now! Middle School and Senior High groups have been active with their winter concert selections, music math games and aural training. Elementary students have been busy reviewing note names, note sequences, apple songs and Halloween tunes. They have also been preparing their own songs for their Disney themed winter concert. As we get closer to concert dates, and I ask that you please mark down these upcoming events: December 13th: Concert rehearsal for Band/Choral students grades 4-12. 3:00-5:45 p.m. Rehearsal will run from 3:00-4:30 and the pizza party/ decorating from 4:30-5:45 p.m. December 15th: Winter Band/Choral concert for grades 4-12 at 7:00 p.m. Students will meet in the music room at 6:30 p.m. Concert dress is green polo shirts and dress slacks/skirts (preferably black). December 16th: Kindergarten through Sixth grade winter concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please have students meet in their classrooms at 6:15 p.m. Suggestions for concert dress: Kindergarten: Nice clothes in Christmas colors (red, white, green) 1st grade: Mickey Mouse ears, suspenders, Minnie Mouse, etc. 2nd Grade: Think Pinocchio. Suspenders, short pants, hats, lines on faces to help them look like a puppet. 3rd grade: Nice clothes in Christmas colors. If you have black magician style hats, please have students wear them. Magic wands would be welcome, too. I will have some black hats for students to borrow. 4th grade: Nice clothes in Christmas colors. Black and white hair, if you wish. Think Cruella DeVille from 101 Dalmatians. 5th grade: White shirts with collars and black pants. Students will borrow bow ties/neck ties that I will distribute which will need to be returned when the concert is over. 6th grade: Mickey Mouse ears, suspenders—Think Disney world! Other important dates include: February 28, 2015: Solo/Ensemble Contest for grades 4-8 Band/Choral students. Host school has not yet been determined. March 18, 2015: Blue Man Group music trip. April 14, 2015: Spring Band/Choral concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, if you have any old iPods or iPhones, please consider donating them to the music department. I would like to compile play lists for classes, as well as use music apps that help improve music theory and history. Here is the information for our second Make it @ You Library Night… Christmas Cards and Gift Tags! Who: Students in grades K-12 What: Create adorable cards and gift tags for the upcoming holidays! When: Monday November 24th K-3 = 4:30-6:00 4+ = 6:30-8:00 Where: Leland Library Cost: $5 Students will make at least 6 greeting cards and can take home whatever they don’t finish.
