Strange Earth Welcome to the Strange Earth where we try to answer the big question: What is our relationship with Earth? Page 1 - Strange Earth Page 2 - Strange earth 1 The Earth’s Mind Earth is a place full of people, these people have different beliefs, some people think the earth was made by a strange man up in the sky, in six days and the seventh day is for rest, others think that two rocks hit each other and formed a huge sphere and that bacteria evolved into humans, either way these stories are spread around stories with no Why does god allow natural disasters? Religious people often ask themselves this question, and not always do they come out with a viable answer. This is still a dispute between people, some say that god isn’t able to always prevent evil from happening on earth; some even say that he isn’t willing to stop these occurrences. Ask yourself this question and see what you come up with. Contributions To Earth evidence. Some spiritual people seem to think that natural disasters are not natural, but the earth is trying to remind us every now and then that we can’t stay here forever and that we’re only… temporary tenants. Some people think that this is all nonsense but really it just depends on what kind of person you are. St Augustine and author CS Lewis have argued God allows our bad actions since stopping them would weaken our free will, which is worse than the disaster. Natural disasters happen every day on earth no matter the severity, they still happen. People start to need help when these disasters get more severe, like earthquakes with a high magnitude, people need a warning and then they need help rebuilding their civilisation, to continue on with their lives. Charities are obviously the main contributors to these kinds of situations, but they need help to, they can run with no people and no funds. The British Red Cross helps people in natural disasters; they help anyone anywhere no matter the devastation. They are part of a worldwide network of volunteers and staff, helping people not just people affected by natural disasters, but also conflicts and individual emergencies. They help vulnerable people all over the world to prepare for and deal with emergencies in their own communities. Then when the crisis is over they help people rebuild houses and continue with their lives. How Do We Respond Natural disasters can be especially traumatic for children and youth. Experiencing a dangerous or violent flood, storm, or earthquake is scary even for adults, and the destruction to their home and where they live can have long term affect and can be very stressful. A lot of the time an entire neighbourhood is hit, undermining a child’s sense of security and normality. These things add a lot of different issues and they may not be able to cope, the need to move home, emotional reactions, and coping techniques. Back in 2010, a 7 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, affecting more than 3 million people. The quake killed 222,570 people and injured more than 300,000. More than 1 million people were left homeless and vulnerable. A charity called World Vision’s initial response was to focus efforts on the basics like food, shelter, water, and sanitation. Health clinics were set up to help care for the injured, and hospitals were given medicines and equipment. After a year, emergency supplies were still being distributed to families for a whole year! Two years later World Vision were still helping Haitian families rebuild lives and recover lives. Government agencies play a critical role during times of disaster, but the exact role of government is often unclear to disaster victims. What actually happens is the government will wait until only after a formal request has been made by the country governor. The impact of a natural or manmade event can qualify a region of a state to be declared a disaster. The President makes this decision, and once made, the efforts of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) begin. FEMA reacts as quickly as possible to fix the devastation caused by the disaster to give aid and relief to those affected; they call this the disaster response phase. After the disaster is over, it is time to rebuild; the recovery phase begins, and with it come additional sources of aid. The Ring Of Fire The Ring of Fire also known as the Pacific Ring of Fire is a huge ring that circles the yes you guessed it the Pacific Ocean, where volcanoes and earthquakes appear more often, and ocean trade has always been an important feature in both ancient and modern times, so this is a big problem. Seaports around the Pacific Rim are always going to be heavily populated. In fact, there are lots of different locations in Japan where volcanoes have destroyed cities, only to have new cities built on top of the lava flows. The chance of a major disaster within our human lifetime is pretty small, so stop worrying, recently though with increased numbers of residents, the amount of people that can be affected have grown larger over time. So why would people want to live here? Here are some clues as to why people might: Around the ring of fire, is actually quite a good looking place to be, with the ocean and the geysers, personally I would live there, if it wasn’t surrounded in volcanoes and had the highest rate of earthquakes appearing here. It’s exotic there, with a lot of scenery it’s quite the tourist attraction, if you don’t get caught up in anything. This would also be the cause of a lot of distractions; you probably wouldn’t get much quiet because people will be streaming around the area trying to look at every last detail. This is a great place to visit with the views and volcanoes you could even experience a real life earthquake, fun! Around the ring there will be a big amount of magma compared to everywhere else in the world so this is an easy way to gain free energy through geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is heat that is generated within the Earth. It is a reusable recourse that can be collected for human use. Another good reason to live here would be because you can get some good crops from here, the soil is pure, which makes it special and therefore your crops would be better than the rest, for example Andisol, one of the 12 soil orders in America. Andisols are special as they have the property of having volcanic-ash as the main parent material. Although these soils exist in all climatic regions, they are only in 0.75 per cent of places other than the ring of fire.
