Director of Ministry Studies & Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Position in [Ministry Studies-related
field] Position Description
The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor who serves Andover Newton as Director of Ministry Studies
provides faculty-level educational leadership for ministry studies across Andover Newton’s programs,
including vision, planning, and implementation. Andover Newton Theological School currently seeks a fulltime, tenure-track faculty member for this position to start in the summer of 2015. Andover Newton invites
applications from scholar-practitioners in a wide range of ministry studies-related fields. Compensation will
be aligned with Andover Newton’s faculty salary ranges. Responsibilities (and therefore distribution of time
for the faculty member selected) strongly emphasize educational leadership, program design and
implementation, educational event planning, and ministry partnerships in the community.
The Director of Ministry Studies leads academic programs related to ministerial education across the life-span
and at different levels of professional commitment. The Director collaborates with the Dean of the Faculty
and is supported with approximately 30 hours per week of administrative and collegial assistance from
academic staff members. Duties include the following, plus regular faculty leadership responsibilities related
to advising and service to the School.
o Direct Field Education Program, including
o Advising students on placement
o Identifying and equipping appropriate learning sites
o Training and supporting supervisors
o Coordinating the Professor-Practitioner Program
o Envisioning future paths for the Program in consultation with the faculty and Dean
o Teach two courses each academic year in academic discipline, according to the needs of the
curriculum
o Plan and implement educational programs for clergy and laity, including but not limited to
o Directing the DMin Program in collaboration with the faculty-led DMin Committee,
including
 Serving as the “faculty face of the program,” which is the most advanced continuing
education program the School provides
 Providing program oversight, in collaboration with the Registrar and D.Min.
Committee chair
 Collaborate with the Dean in envisioning the program’s enrichment and expansion
o Planning the annual Woodbury Leadership Workshop
o Developing and coordinating Ministry Workshops and emerging options for clergy
continuing education and learning opportunities for laity
o Envisioning and implementing a strategic plan for non-degree educational programs as a part of
Andover Newton’s strategic planning process
Qualifications sought: Educational leadership potential and/or experience; Ph.D., Ed.D., or D.Min.; deep
knowledge of the work of ministry, including recent experience in a ministry setting; and entrepreneurial
and/or creative gifts.

Andover Newton is a graduate seminary serving approximately 300 full- and part-time students with 70 full
and part-time faculty and staff. Traditionally covenanted with the United Church of Christ and the American
Baptist Churches, the School’s student population has nearly 35 denominations represented with a large
Unitarian Universalist cohort. The school is situated on a beautiful 27-acre campus in Newton Centre, MA, a
residential suburb just outside Boston, MA. A short walk from public transportation, the campus is adjacent
to Hebrew College and Rabbinical School with which it shares many programs and operations. Andover
