Corriander (Dhaniya) Pre- Sowing Price Forecast
India contributes around 80% of world corriander production and produces around 2.5-3.0
lakh tonnes annually. Other major countries producing coriander are Morocco, Canada,
Pakistan and Romania. Major importers are Indonesia, Singapore, Sri lanka, UAE and USA.
Rajasthan (60%) is the major producer of corriander in India followed by Madhya Pradesh,
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Orissa. Annually 5-10 per cent of total
production from India is exported. Badami, Eagle, Scooter, Double Parrot, Single Parrot,
Super Green are the major varieties grown in India. Badami variety is mainly grown in
Rajasthan and contributes about 65 to 70 per cent of total production. Major Areas of
production in Rajasthan for Coriander are Jalawar, Baran, Kota, Bundi, Chittorgarh.
Farmers need forecasted prize of Coriander after harvest (Feb-March, 2015) to decide the
area to be sown under coriander. The price forecasting taken up by the Institute of
Agribusiness Management, S K Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner under the aegis of
NCAP, ICAR, New Delhi, under the project of Network Project on Market Intelligence.
IABM studied the price behaviour of Corriander based on the monthly time series data of the
Kota regulated market for a period of 12 years from January 2003 – October 2014 and on the
basis of scientific analysis of Corriander price and market survey. It is concluded that the
prices are expected to hover around ` 8741 to 9046 per quintal for good quality coriander
during the harvesting months in Kota market.
The prices are likely to be slightly less than the forecasted price as per the expert opinion.
