Proposal to add optional [FYI] component to EDOS
Comment #112
As a result of discussion on 10/8/2013 ballot recon call, motion to adopt
profile architecture of LRI, LOI (no vote yet)
Premise – “core” eDOS should cover minimum information required for a consumer
to locate, select, and order a test.
The use of an optional profile is to define how creators and consumers can elect to
send additional content that is purely informational/educational in nature; it use is
restricted to educational purposes.
As this started with reference ranges, the following example uses that datatype
discussion to create the initial profile. In this particular case, the following changes
are proposed:
1) Create the profile and clearly define its intent:
1.1.1.1
EDOS_????_COMPONENT – ID: 2.16.840.1.113883.9.ZZ
This optional component indicates support for the exchange of additional
information that is informative in nature where the information may be of use to the
consuming system but is not required in an order. This component provides a predetermined template for additional content in a common model to facilitate
implementation across systems. This profile currently provides guidance on the
exchange of the following:
Reference Range Information
Allows the exchange of the various reference ranges that may apply to the
interpretation of a test result. Note that reference ranges communicated in the eDOS
cannot be used for evaluation of actual results.
