SELECTED FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR DANCE FACULTY
This list is intended for your planning purposes. If you are interested in finding external funding to support your
work, it is our hope that you will be able to quickly determine which of the agencies on the list might fund your
current creative project, easily find more information about those agencies by visiting their websites, and then
develop an external applications timeline you can use to keep yourself on-track for developing your applications
in a timely manner. Do please note that preparing an application takes a great deal of time so begin the process
early enough to give yourself time to develop a competitive proposal. We hope you will find this list useful as
you consider external funding for your work.
To navigate, keep document in layout view, scroll down to the table of contents, then click on the page number
of the agency or program in which you’re interested to navigate directly to that entry. If you then wish to learn
more about the opportunity, click on the agency’s website address (URL), which you will find near the bottom
of the entry. If clicking on a URL does not take you to the agency’s website, copy the URL and paste it into
your web browser’s address line and type return. This will take you to the agency’s website, where you can
check for new and more detailed application information.
Some artists’ colonies and residential centers offer thematic opportunities, which may change from year-to-year.
Funding agency programs, application requirements, deadlines, and focus areas are subject to change. Prior to
beginning application preparation, verify deadlines and other critical information by visiting the sponsoring
institution’s website or contacting the agency via e-mail or telephone; this is especially true for agencies whose
deadlines were not yet posted for the current year when this list was updated.
Because most agencies have deadlines only once each year and take from three to eight months to announce
awards, think long-term when planning your external funding strategies. Deadlines can change and several
agencies had not updated their websites at the time this document was compiled, so please do check the websites
of agencies that interest you and read application instructions carefully.
This is not exhaustive. If you know of sources we have not included that you believe will appeal to many dance
faculty members, please do let us know and we’ll add them to the list.
