WHEN TO CALL YOUR VET
Call your veterinarian if your horse displays any of the following symptoms:

Profusely bleeding wounds
Wire cuts of any kind
Wounds located near a joint
Eye injury of any kind
Suspected colic
Retained placenta
Prolapse
Foaling problems
Sudden, severe lameness
Choking
Feed material coming out of nose
Stepped on a nail
FIRST AID KIT FOR YOUR HORSE
Keeping some basic first aid supplies at home (and in your trailer!) is a great idea. Having the right gear
at hand makes dealing with the occasional injury a lot easier (for you and your horse).
The following is a list of the basic supplies we recommend:



Non-stick gauze dressing pads (eg. Telfa)
Absorbent material (eg. gauze pads)
Flexible cohesive bandage (eg. RipWrap, Vetrap)
Standing / polo wraps
Poultice pad (eg. Animalintex)
Adhesive tape
Scissors
Tweezers / forceps
Thermometer
Stethoscope
Disposable gloves
Duct tape (for when regular tape just isn’t enough!)
Gentle antiseptic cleanser (eg. Hibitane)
Polysporin / Dermagel / Furain ointment
Fly spray
Wire cutters
Chemical cold pack (ice pack)
