I gave my Skype Partner feedback about his/her language use. When I didn’t understand my partner, I asked for clarification. Such clarification included: Repeating repeating in different words describing, paraphrasing switching languages translating with a dictionary/google translate writing down in the chat window Language Benefits I noticed new, so far unknown words/expressions during the Skype conversations. I later used words/expressions I had learned from my partner in other situations. I later used grammatical structures I had learned from my partner in other situations. The Skype Project has helped me improve my fluency in German. The Skype Project has helped me improve my listening skills/auditory understanding in German. The Skype Project has helped me improve my pronunciation. The Skype Project has helped me improve my ability to react spontaneously in German. The Skype Project has helped me improve my grammatical competences in German. I have the feeling I now can talk in longer coherent sentences. Due to the Skype Project I now feel more secure when talking German. The Skype Project is a good opportunity to improve speaking abilities inside and outside of the classroom. I believe I would have made this progress without the Skype Project with the same intensity. Statement Intercultural Benefits I now know more about Germany as a country than before the Skype Project I know more about German culture than before the Skype Project. The Skype Project has generated and fostered my interest in Germany and German culture. I have learned more about the lifestyle of young people in Germany. The Skype Project has improved my understanding of my own culture. The Skype Project is a good possibility to foster intercultural understanding inside and outside of the classroom. Through the Skype Project I have gained self-confidence in interacting with people from a different country and language background I noticed cultural differences during the calls. Every now and then I had difficulties adjusting to these differences. Whenever there were cultural differences, I asked my partner why he/she thinks this way. I was interested in how my partner sees canadian culture. I was interested in how my partner sees German culture Project-based Learning (Cityguide-Blog) The Blog-project was integrated into the class in a sensible, useful and appropriate way. The cooperation via Skype was helpful and useful for the completion of the Blog-Project. In the future, I would prefer skypeing about topics without a larger project in the background. The aim of designing the blog was motivating for each of the upcoming calls. The group work for the blog-project was helpful and inspiring. The conversations with my partner were inspiring and helpful/necessary to achieve the goals of this project. The time necessary to complete the Blog-project was appropriate and manageable. Support from the teacher throughout the blog project was always given/available and appropriate. The project design facilitated a deep engagement with the language and good progress in language skills. In the future, the Skype calls should be continued within a larger project like this one only in the future, the project should be continued as calls from home only in the future, the project should be continued as a mix between the two, with different phases Making calls privately from home reduced my anxiety and I enjoyed the privacy of it during in-class calls, I felt less comfortable than during the calls from home The presence of the teacher during the in-class Skype calls was helpful and increased my confidence as well as my learning benefits Further Comments: Please provide further comments about the Skype Project.
