Unit Description:
The UWM Division of Student Affairs is to be recognized as the premier Student Affairs Division,
innovative in creating a thriving student-centered learning community that is dedicated to students' wellbeing, success, personal growth, and professional development.
The UWM Neighborhood Housing Office provides direct outreach and advising to help students find
quality off-campus housing and roommates through education, referral, and support. We promote
healthy living and social responsibility to connect students with UWM and the surrounding
neighborhoods. The Community Outreach and Assistance for Student Tenants (COAST) Program
provides UWM students living off-campus with information about resources available to them and helps
them improve communication between students and long-term residents.
Position Description:
The Neighborhood Housing Office is seeking focused, self-motivated individual to serve in a variety of
roles within the Neighborhood Housing Office. This individual will be primarily responsible for
management of the Community Outreach and Assistance for Student Tenants (COAST) Leader
program, including staff supervision, program planning and coordination, and community outreach. The
COAST Program Supervisor will be a contributing member of the team in the Neighborhood Housing
Office.
Positional Responsibilities:
1. Assist the NHO Director in the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of student staff.
2. Coordinate and facilitate educational programs for student tenants in the local neighborhoods,
including those executed by student staff and campus partners.
3. Assist the NHO Director is managing COAST Leader response to issues and concerns in the local
neighborhoods through the annual grant initiative and in response to observations and complaints.
4. Co-facilitate weekly staff meetings with leadership from NHO Director.

5. Participate and assist with departmental assessment initiatives, including program assessment.
6. Consult and meet with supervisor on a regular basis to provide consistency.
7. Other duties as assigned. Specific responsibilities may reflect the successful candidate’s interests
and desired experiences as well as current department needs.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in graduate coursework at UWMilwaukee in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field
for the duration of the assistantship. Eligible candidates must be enrolled either half-time or full-time in
a graduate degree-bearing program having earned a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA in prior graduate
coursework. As a representative of the Neighborhood Housing Office this individual serves as a role
model to students and is expected to demonstrate academic success by maintaining a 2.5 GPA during
employment. Violations of campus policies, probation as a result of academic/non-academic
misconduct, and/or failure to meet satisfactory academic progress may be cause for dismissal.
Time Commitment:
This position will typically involve 20 hours per week and requires a flexible time commitment. The
majority of work hours will be completed during business hours for the listed offices, including early
evening hours, though the position will also involve some night and weekend commitments.
Compensation:
The hourly rate of pay for this position is $12.39 and pays bi-weekly on Thursdays. The successful
candidate will also have access to on-going professional development and mentoring opportunities to
enhance their success.
