To contribute to the continued development and delivery of high quality teaching. To contribute to the efficient administration of the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology. Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. 40% Research Support the research activities of the Academic Unit of Social Sciences by developing and sustaining an area of personal research and expertise, undertaking independent research leading to high quality publications in top journals and books, and providing guidance to staff and students in your specialist area. 2. Education Support the teaching objectives of the Academic Unit by developing and delivering a range of teaching and assessment activities including lectures, seminars, setting/marking coursework, and supervision of MPhil/PhD students according to your area of subject specialism. 40% 3. Administration 20% Contribute to the efficient management and administration of the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology, by performing personal administrative duties as allocated by the Head. Such roles may include personal tutoring as well as other responsibilities. Internal and external relationships Colleagues: (to work closely with academic and administrative staff in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology, and the Academic Unit of Social Sciences in order to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of teaching and to promote research. Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of Division, within the context of the teaching programmes agreed by the Faculty Education Committee. PERSON SPECIFICATION Criteria Essential Desirable Qualifications, knowledge and experience PhD in Criminology or a related Social Science discipline Track record of excellence in teaching postgraduate courses in Criminology at University level. Expertise in criminology/psychology and/or criminological/forensic psychology; policing, criminal justice, crime and gender, crime and social policy and international/comparative research; or any other area of specialism in Criminology. Track record of excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in Criminology at University level. Ability to develop and sustain a highquality research programme, commensurate with the development of a national research reputation in Criminology Ability to make a full contribution to the Departments’ submission to the Research Excellence Framework and the further development of our collective research strategy Ability to carry out administrative duties in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology as required Ability to contribute to the delivery of other programmes in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology Track record of successful research funding.
