Integrated Unit Plan Title: You Want Me To Eat What? A WebQuest
Courses to integrate: Nutrition and Wellness / World History

Unit Summary: Students will research native continental food items to determine origin, cultural aspects and food
commonality. Students will conduct web-based research and design a PowerPoint presentation.

Students will be divided into small groups of 4.
Small group members will be assigned as
either Chef or Historian (2 per group).
Students will complete the “You Want Me To
Eat What?” WebQuest gathering information
on assigned food items.
Students will develop and present a
PowerPoint Presentation utilizing the
information they gathered in Activity/Lesson A.
Students will create a VOKI, utilizing
www.voki.com (a personalized, speaking
avatar) to deliver information throughout their
PowerPoint Presentation.
Students will be introduced to a variety of
continent-based cultures, including native/nonnative food items. Students will research
cultural aspects of the cultures, including
religious constraints on food and food
preparation.
Students will develop an essay based on the
information gathered from Nutrition/Wellness
and cultured learned in World History.
Activity/Lesson D
Students will create a cartoon strip utilizing
www.toondoo.com (a personalized cartoon
strip maker) depicting origin and subsequent
diffusion of food items and use in preparation
of recipes.

Instructions to Teacher:
Activity/Lesson A: Teacher will divide students into groups of 4 and assign a role and food items within the group.
Teacher will provide a WebQuest instruction packet detailing items required for assessment.
Activity/Lesson B: Teacher will facilitate student development of PowerPoint Presentation meeting assessment criteria.
Activity/Lesson C: Teacher will facilitate student development of VOKI presentation meeting assessment criteria.
Activity/Lesson D: Teacher will facilitate student development of TOONDOO presentation meeting assessment criteria.
Instructions to Students:
Activity/Lesson A: Students will meet in the MHS Computer Lab. Students will follow instructions outlined in WebQuest:
You Want Me To Eat What? to research assigned food items.
Activity/Lesson B: Students will use research from Activity/Lesson A to develop a PowerPoint Presentation.
Activity/Lesson C: Students will use research from Activity/Lesson A to develop VOKI presentation.
Activity/Lesson D: Students will use research from Activity/Lesson A to develop TOONDOO presentation.
Instructions for Student Accommodations:
Activity/Lesson A: Students will work in small groups for support. Accommodations will be made for students with
IEPs/504 plans.
Activity/Lesson B: Students will work in small groups for support. Accommodations will be made for students with
IEPs/504 plans.
Activity/Lesson C: Students will work in small groups for support. Accommodations will be made for students with
IEPs/504 plans.

Assessment for Activity:
Activity/Lesson A-D: Students will be assessed utilizing a rubric to determine accuracy and completeness of WebQuest
packet. Rubric includes assessment for each Activity/Lesson. Students will also complete a peer evaluation.
