Waterfalls) White Tail Deer- South Carolina’s official state animal; found in the Blue Ridge Region… Lake Jocassee- man made lake in the Blue Ridge region created to provide hydroelectric power… Piedmont Region- wide river valleys and monadnocks; means “foot of the mountains… Monadnocks- What industries are important in the Piedmont Region? Sandhills Region- narrow band of hilly land that borders the Piedmont; remains of South Carolina’s old coastline can be found there; Peachtree Rock Preserve is located in the Sandhills Region; ocean fossils can be found there… Fall line- Textile mills were built along the fall line because the water could be used to provide power to run the machines in the mills… Inner Coastal Plains Region- rolling hills, forests, swamps, floodplains; center of the state’s cotton production because of the rich soil found there… Outer Coastal Plains Region- Railroads were built into the swamps of the Outer Coastal Plains Region to carry out lumber (Cypress trees and other hardwoods)… What are some of the physical features found along South Carolina’s coast?
