Laboratory for Unconventional Conflict Analysis & Simulation
The lab applies unconventional methods to
study the complex global security environment.
It is a joint initiative between Triangle schools
(Duke, UNC, NCSU) and students from NDU’s
JSOMA (Joint Special Operations Master of
Arts) program to develop new computational
models and produce advanced research using
computational and complex methods on
contemporary security issues. By bridging these
communities, the lab’s mission is to empower
policymakers with advanced computational security studies.
The lab is looking for computational
and social science researchers to
contribute to national security related
projects, such as the following:
 Mapping the Hizballah and Al
Quds networks
 Modeling the effect of climate
change and conflict
 Mapping the Marja’iyya network
 Assessing Iran’s WMD and technological capabilities
