Selby Police would like to remind local residents to remain vigilant of rogue traders in the area. Rogue traders will offer to carry out work on your property such as roofing, guttering work, driveway/patio re-surfacing and other general house repairs. They are usually not qualified, are un-reliable and will carry out poor quality work - that’s if they actually finish the job! If you are interested in getting work done ask the trader for a written quotation and tell him you will inform him later if his quotation is acceptable. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 requires that a Trader gives a 14 day cooling off period for goods and services costing more than £42. This is a legal requirement and must be given. If you feel that a rogue trader has approached you please call NYP. Recently it is believed that offenders were disturbed by the alarm when breaking into outbuildings on Northfield Road, Womersley. Recently an attempt was made to break into Chapel Haddlesey school by jimmying open a heavy-duty wood door. Recently a shed at the rear of a property in Little Smeaton was broken into. 2 petrol push mowers and a petrol strimmer were stolen. If you have any information, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101. Recently two properties under construction on sites in Hensall had been targeted by unknown offenders. Offenders firstly entered a site on Snaith Road, Hensall and jemmied the window shutters on two metal storage containers. Tools were stolen along with vehicle keys from the office to a VW Caddy pickup. Offenders loaded the tools into the back of the VW caddy pickup and drove to a neighbouring house construction site on Station Road, Hensall. They then jemmied open a metal storage container used to store tools and materials and stole several items from within. The same stolen vehicle from the first site was used to load stolen items from the second and then was driven through a fence onto A645 and towards the direction of Snaith. Recently unknown offenders attacked a car that was parked on the school car park in Kirk Smeaton. The passenger window of the vehicle was smashed and a laptop computer was stolen. Please remain vigilant with vehicle security and report any information, suspicious persons, vehicles and or activity to North Yorkshire police on 101. There has recently been a rise in reports of a male (possibly two) attending addresses purporting to be window cleaners. These males will have limited window cleaning equipment (if any) and will use the guise of being a window cleaner to enter residents property. This then enables them to steal items from within the victims homes without their knowledge. Recently a garage belonging to a property in Whitley was broken into and large amounts of Golfing items were stolen including a Power Caddy Bag and Trolley, full set of Left Handed Callaway Clubs, Claude Butler Road Bike, and Karcher Pressure Washer. It is apparent that people in North Yorkshire are being targeted by phone scammers posing as police officers It occurs when fraudsters phone their target and tell them they have been the victim of fraud.
