List of Urban Institute Community Platforms (January 2013)
Please note that NCCS has made significant changes to the look, feel and functionality of the sites over the past
year. They expect to migrate all Platforms to the new look and functionality once development is completed in the next
month. In addition, they are developing a module targeted at colleges and universities to provide additional incentives
for them to get involved in civic capacity-building work by giving them tools for tracking student and faculty volunteer
hours and community projects and reporting on university-wide and departmental impact.
A full list is attached. For those interested in seeing “live” sites right now, the following sites in particular illustrate the
range of functionality and approaches.
- New Mexico for its overall look, it’s “issue” and county “landing pages,” its community indicator maps, and its
inclusion of grants data
- Connecticut for its Community Impact Circles (peer learning, and shared outcome and performance measurement
tools)
- Brevard Food Gap study for its combining of locally collected data on resources with national data on needs.
- Fargo for general look and feel of a small site
- Sarasota (still under development) for a neighborhood-centric approach that combines quantitative data with local
“story-telling”
