Learning Target: I can develop a schema with the vocabulary of the unit: Relations and
Functions
Teaching Strategy Used: Begin class with a video

Functions)
Students will be given 15 Frayer Model Templates (small & skinny.) They will create a Unit
Foldable with each Frayer Model template being used for each vocabulary term. We will
discuss the vocabulary terms throughout the period. Students may work in groups, but each
student is to produce a foldable.
Essential Questions of the Day: What is a relation? What is a function? How are relations
and functions related?
Assessment: The parts of each Frayer Model for each vocab term in the foldable
activity

Bell Ringer: “Meat-A-Morphosis” video
Learning Target: I can identify the 6 ways to show a relation
Teaching Strategy Used: Begin class with video “Meat-A-Morphosis”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUTXsPFx-qQ Then, students will conduct an
investigation. Students will be looking up the six ways to represent a relation. They will
design a foldable with the information. They may work in pairs, but each student will generate
a foldable. Electronic devices may be used in this investigation.
Essential Questions of the Day: What is a relation? What is a function? How are relations
and functions related?
Assessment: Foldable
Bell Ringer: 1 Question over naming the six ways to represent a relation
Learning Target: I can identify a function
Teaching Strategy Used: Students will be given a card set of relations. Some of the
relations are functions and some are not. Students will be given which cards are
functions and non-functions. Students will use the examples and non-examples to
figure out what a function looks like in each of the six ways to express a relation.
Guided Questions will be used to lead students
Essential Questions of the Day: What is a relation? What is a function? How are relations
and functions related?
