Under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools are designated as Reward, Priority, Focus, or Alert schools. The Waiver also allows the use of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), which serves as a comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia. The CCRPI provides a score between 0-100 for each school, and that score measures how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career. Cedartown High School’s most current recorded CCRPI score is from the 2013 year. That said CCRPI score was a 64.5. The 2014 CCRPI score is waiting to be entered by the State of Georgia once they have accumulated and processed all relative documents for said year. More information can be found out about this score by accessing the State of Georgia Department of Education website. The website address is www.gadoe.org. Once there click on the data and reporting link, scroll down and click on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), then click on the view 2013 reports link, and then you can directly access information for Polk School District and specifically Cedartown High School. Despite the progress made by our students, Cedartown High School has been designated as a Focus School under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver for the 2014-2015 school year. This designation is based on our school’s performance in 2011 and we keep this designation for three years, having begun in 2012. A Focus School receives its designation in one of three ways: 1) It is a Title I school with some of the largest gaps in student achievement between subgroups of students, 2) It is a Title I school with some of the largest gaps in graduation rates between subgroups of students, or 3) It is a Title I-participating high school with a graduation rate less than 60 percent over a number of consecutive years that is not identified as a Priority School. Graduation rate data was analyzed from 2009 to 2013 and data the show that Cedartown High School has a gap in graduation rates between all students and students with disabilities. The following data show the trend in graduation rates of both subgroups: Graduation Rates over a three year period are as follows: 2009 percentages of all students graduating totaled 75.9% and only 47.8% of SWD graduated. 2010 percentages of all students graduating totaled 80.1%and only 46.2% of SWD graduated. 2011 percentages of all students graduating totaled 66.2% and only 21.6% of SWD graduated. 2012 percentages of all students graduating totaled 67.9% and only 31.3% of SWD graduated. 2013 percentages of all students graduating totaled 56.9% and only 19.6% of SWD graduated School Designation Letter : Focus and FLP combination Revised: August 18, 2014 3.a,b; 7.4 As a Focus School, we will work together with parents/guardians, our community, and the Polk School District to develop a school plan that delivers the necessary support to address the learning needs of our students and increase their academic success. One of the main interventions we will provide is a Flexible Learning Program (FLP). Focus Schools are required to develop and offer Flexible Learning Programs (FLP). These programs offer extra academic help to students such as tutoring, remediation and/or other educational supports. The goal of the FLP is to increase student learning, grades, and test scores. Your child is eligible to receive FLP services. FLP services will begin at our school on Monday, September 29, 2014. As a Focus School, we will work collaboratively with parents/guardians, our community, and our school district office to develop a school turnaround plan which will implement interventions to respond to the specific needs of the students in our school. The school will be providing extended learning time through the Flexible Learning Program (FLP) for students in reading, science, and math to remediate skill deficits and support grade level Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS).Math will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:25-4:30. Reading will be Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:25-4:30 and Science will be Monday- Thursday mornings 7:15-7:45. There will be no FLP times on Fridays also bus transportation will be provided in the afternoon for all students who attend FLP. For those students who do not ride the bus home from FLP, parents will need to be at the school by 4:45 to pick up their child up from FLP. To enroll your child in our school’s FLP, please complete the enclosed form and either mail it to 167 Frank Lott Drive fax it to 770-749-2080 or hand deliver it to 167 Frank Lott Drive by Monday September 22, 2014. Please be advised that even if this form is not returned, your child will be served by the school’s FLP until written notice from you is received by Mr. Kirsch at Cedartown High School. One parent meeting will be held to provide more information on the FLP services being offered at our school. This meeting will provide you the opportunity to understand the FLP services being provided to your child, as well as provide you with a copy of our school’s written FLP plan. Please plan to attend this meeting; a date and time will be sent home at a later date. An important part of Cedartown High School’s success is parent participation and support in developing activities to improve student achievement. We hope that you will become involved in our school improvement work as we continue to monitor student achievement and set high expectations. If you are interested in participating in the development of our school improvement plans, being part of our family engagement team or have questions regarding the FLP, please contact the FLP leader, Phillip Kirsch at pkirsch@polk.k12.ga.us.
