Teacher Level Analysis – Teacher & PLC groups
Benchmark Analysis Guide
Purpose Narrative:
With district benchmarking, teachers and PLC groups are able to receive content and comparative data during the school year – prior to the end
of the year. With this data, teachers and PLC groups are able to adjust instruction based on content mastery for objectives taught and objectives
yet to be taught.
1. Comparative Data
Performance is relative. Therefore, it is important for teachers and schools to know how their students are performing in relation to
others like them (similar demographics). Without this knowledge we cannot know our true performance and we cannot guide our
expectations. Comparative data allows us to see ourselves in relation to others and judge accordingly.
2. Formative Data
The benchmark gives PLCs formative data on students to determine how well students have learned content that has been taught. In
addition, benchmarks give PLCs formative data on students to determine what students already know about future content that will be
taught. From this data, teachers can create intervention plans for past content, and differentiate for future content.

Guiding Questions for PLC Groups and Individual Teachers
Teachers are asked to reflect on the questions below as they analyze their classroom data. After reflection, teachers will work with
their PLC teams to decide a plan of action for addressing the future academic needs of groups of students using the PLC Data Sheet
for Benchmarks.
Performance Data Report
Did my students meet the overall
standard of proficiency?
How did my class do compared
to the school average? Compared
to the system average?
What are possible reasons that
explain the data?
Comparative Growth Report
How did my students grow
compared to school? Compared
to district?
Subgroup Report
Are any subgroups below the
class average (exceptional
children, race, low SES, LEP,
AIG, etc.)?
What can I do to enhance the
learning of a particular
subgroup?
What research is out there
specifically for this subgroup
regarding best teaching
practices? Special education,
LEP, low SES, AIG, race?
Drill Down Objective Report
How did my students do on the
objectives that I taught?
 What objectives do I need to
reteach? To the class? To a
small group? To individuals?
 How will I reteach these
objectives to those who did
not demonstrate mastery?
Questions for PLC teammates
What objectives did an entire
grade level seem to have trouble
understanding?
What are strategies we could
employ together to teach these
objectives differently?
What strategies do you use to
engage XYZ subgroup?
(Exceptional Children, LEP, low
SES, etc.)
Item Analysis Report
What individual questions were
missed by a majority of the class?
 Was there a common wrong
answer among the students? How will we teach students
 Was there a distractor in the differently through the re-teaching
process?
question?
How will we teach students
differently through the
enrichment process?
