3. Activities Curriculum Plan for Early Years Foundation Stage – Why is it cold in winter?
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
 Adult Led Focus – Make a verbal timetable of things that happen in winter on the IWB. Can the children
remember any festivals of occasions that happen in winter e.g. Christmas?;
 Indoor Continuous – Provide a camera or mirror and some winter pictures. Encourage the
children to choose a picture and make a face to show how that picture makes them feel.
 Outdoor Continuous – Play a winter themed game of hide and seek or ‘Pass the Snowball’.
 Outdoor Continuous – Provide winter themed dressing up clothes.
Literacy
 Adult Led Focus – Provide winter-themed pencil control mazes.
 Adult Led Focus – Use winter word mats to help children write about their favourite things to do in
winter.




Adult Led Focus – Sing ‘The Winter Song’ and extend the verses.
Adult Led Focus – ‘It’s Snowing’ winter action rhyme.

Continuous - Provide page borders in the writing area.
