Library Resource Review for AH188 This review is submitted for the proposed new course: AH 188 Applied Research: Community Service (1 unit) Prepared by Elise Wong, Cataloging and Reference Librarian, October 2013 I. Library collection development budget allocation The library acquisition budget for Art supports three majors in the Art and Art History program: Art Practice, History of Art, and Art Theory and Criticism (beginning fall 2013). The budget allocation varies from year to year. The 2013-2014 allocation for Art is $5557. The annual budget allocation for Art is primarily determined by statistics, such as, number of students in the Art program, number of Art reference questions, circulation of Art related library materials, and the number of library instruction for Art classes. II. During the fall semester, I visited three class sessions (two on Art History, one on Art Theory and Criticism) to introduce myself as a “resource,” and give students a brief orientation of the Art resources listed on the Art library subject page. The brief library sessions received positive feedback from faculty members and students. AH188 professor is encouraged to contact the Art subject librarian to schedule a library session to provide students with an orientation of the appropriate library resources for this class. Additional library resources needed The required textbook for this course: Will Bradley and Charles Esche, eds., Art and Social Change: A Critical Reader is currently not available in the library. The Art subject librarian will try to obtain a copy from out of print market. The professor is advised to recommend resources on the core reading list (if any) for library future purchases.
