Planting bulbs for gifts
This unit provides the learner an introduction to the horticultural and floristry industry and the part they play in everyday lives. The learner will
produce a gift similar to ones found in florists, supermarkets and garden centres and be able to take this home. They will learn the Health and
Safety requirements of working with plants and the equipment required to produce the final gift. They will understand the need for PPE and
the necessity of being tidy and cleaning the work station.
This unit includes:






Understanding the H&S issues when working in the horticulture industry including PPE
Consideration of career opportunities in horticulture and floristry
The environmental impact of working with plants and the importance of recycling and re using everyday items and waste materials
The decoration of gift items in the floristry industry
The growth of bulbs and their use as seasonal gifts (Christmas and Easter)
A review and evaluation of their performance in making the gift and growing the bulbs
