Mereana Wilson: The inaugural Sir Hugh Kawharu Fellow at the University of Auckland Business School As part of the Iwi Water Rights Feasibility Project, Wilson’s research at the Business School developed a set of basic management tools to help whanau, hapu and iwi understand the health, use and agreement processes that should occur in the active protection and use of our waterways. It is hoped that the information gathered through the use of these tools can support Iwi Māori and help inform New Zealand’s legal, political, operational and cultural systems in the formation of a unified approach. “I hope the Fellowship will not only help my own iwi, but also other iwi and indigenous communities to think about how they can marry their cultural worldviews and connection to our natural resources with current ownership and management practices.” “The Fellowship gave me the opportunity to take time out for a year to focus on where I want to go careerwise.” 3 SIR HUGH KAWHARU FOUNDATION a Charitable Trust established To inspire and encourage emerging Māori Leaders Applications should be typed.
