International Literacy Day – Sociology
GCSE - Pupils will be completing an extended writing task. They will write a short essay
(required for the GCSE syllabus essay on the exam) and peer assess this.
They will use 4 colours when peer marking which will reinforce their literacy skills which are
crucial to succeed in essay writing.




Red - Irrelevant information to the title.
Yellow - Key sociological terms and concepts.
Blue - Grammatical errors.
Green - Relevant to the title.
International Literacy Day – Psychology
Year 12 – Students will focus on key terms; they will look for definitions of key terms and
will play a key terms game that focuses on correctly spelling the key words learnt in that
lesson e.g. How many psychology key terms can you create from a set of scrabble letters or
key term hang man.
Year 13 - Students will be completing an extended writing question from the relationships
section of the unit 3 exam and peer assess this.
They will use 4 colours when peer marking which will reinforce their literacy skills which are
crucial to succeed in essay writing.




Red - irrelevant information.
Yellow - Ao1 - description and key psychological terms that are relevant to the
question.
Green - Ao2/3 content - evaluation/issues/debates/approaches.
Blue - SPaG errors.
International Literacy Day – Law (A-level)
Year 12 - Students will read a law report and summaries key points making sure that they
are grammatically correct in their understanding of the law report.
Year 13 - Students will participate in a mock trial; they will develop their oracy by using
various defence and prosecution documents to assess their understanding of the alleged
offence and how they construct and apply antecedents for the defendant.
International Literacy Day – Business (A-level)
Year 13 - Students will read an extended essay that is grade A standard and they will identify
the key assessment objectives of Knowledge, Application, Analysis and Evaluation.
They will then choose, plan and construct an essay and highlight these skills in their own
work before submitting this essay the following week.
