Valedictorian and Salutatorian:
In order to be Valedictorian and Salutatorian of an AHS graduation class, students must:
1. Meet all requirements to receive a high school diploma by the time the high school graduation
ceremony begins;
2. Be ”honor graduates‘ as defined under, “Honor Graduates”;
3. Have attended AHS both semesters of his/her senior year (enrollment must occur no later
than September 1st);
4. Valedictorian must have the highest average of the numeric value grades after eight
semesters of high school (9-12). Salutatorian must have the second highest average of the
numeric value grades after eight complete semesters of high school (9-12). (This will be
based on the fact that all eight semester high school grades will be given a numeric value
equal to the percentage number the student makes in each class per each semester. For
example, if a student makes a 97% in his/her Algebra II class he/she will be given 97 points
towards determining who Valedictorian will be in his/her graduating class. Numeric averages
for AP classes are weighted by 10 points and concurrent college courses use a 4.0 scale.)
5. A transfer student to AHS who only has letter grades on his/her transcript will be given quality
points based on the following scale: A-95, B-85, C-75, D-65, F-55. This will only be used to
determine a student’s local class rank, which is used to determine who the school’s
valedictorian and salutatorian will be.
