HOW TO RUN YOUR OWN ACTIVE GIRLS DAY EVENT If you’re thinking of running your own Active Girls Day event then here’s a step by step guide that will help you get started: 1. Speak to your Active Schools Co-ordinator / Manager to make sure you have their support – they will hopefully be able to help you find a suitable venue and give other help and advice such as printing/photocopying the resources 2. Give your Active Schools Co-ordinator the letter below which is addressed to them and the Headteacher, they can then speak to the Headteacher on your behalf or advise you to go to them 3. Get in touch, or message us on Facebook to let us know you’re planning your own Active Girls Day event or call 0141 552 7712 4. Access the resource pack on our website for lots of useful hints / tips and items to help you run your event – www.ydance.org/participation (there is also a poster and participant certificate for you to use) 5. You’ll also find a link to a film of the Active Girls Dance on our website to help you learn and teach it at your event 6. Tell your friends / your group all about your event and get them to sign up: - Use the participant letter below to let them know about the event - Facebook posts / tweets telling them what’s happening, when and where the event is taking place and a bit about Active Girls Day - Share our posts / tweets - Put up the posters around your school (remember to add your event details) - Print and display the sign up sheet for participants to sign up for the event 7. Keep your Active Schools Co-ordinator up to date with how things are going with your planning and ask them or us for help at any time – get in touch, message us on Facebook or call 0141 552 7712 8. On the day please take photos and videos of your event and share them on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram etc. using #ActiveGirlsDay @YDanceScotland @SportScotland Dear Participant, Thank you for signing up to be part of Active Girls Day 2015. This day is a celebration of all of the amazing work that goes on in Active Girls across Scotland on a daily basis. We hope that by using dance to work with girls like you, we will motivate and inspire you to be more physically active and to stay active! You, and other girls across the country, will be learning and performing the Active Girls Day dance which has been specially choreographed by the YDance Active team. The dance includes many different styles including Street, Contemporary, Jazz, Swing, Bollywood and African and is a fun way to GET ACTIVE! The dance leader who will be helping you to learn the Active Girls Day dance has been qualified at either Sports Leaders UK SCQF Level 4 or QCF Level 2 with us at YDance Active or with Girls on the Move. This means that they have been given the skills to help them assist or lead you in a dance/physical activity session. If you are interested in becoming a dance leader yourself then you can ask them how they got involved! All that’s left to say is that we hope you enjoy the day and don’t forget to tweet and facebook about your experiences #ActiveGirlsDay or #ActiveGirls and follow @sportscotland Stay Active! Dear Headteacher/Active Schools Co-ordinator, Active Girls is a Scottish Government funded initiative managed by Sportscotland and delivered in partnership with YDance Active, Girls on the Move and Fit For Girls. It is a national programme aimed at increasing girls’ and young women’s participation in PE, sport and physical activity. 2nd October 2015 is Active Girls Day, which is a celebration of all the amazing work that goes on in Active Girls across Scotland on a daily basis. YDance Active’s role in this programme is to motivate and inspire teenage girls to be more physically active by using dance as the method of achieving this goal. For this special day of celebration we have choreographed a fun and energetic dance sequence which incorporates many styles of dance, from Street to Swing and from Contemporary to African. In your school you have at least one dance leader who has completed their Sports Leaders SCQF Level 4 or QCF Level 2 Award in dance leadership with either YDance Active or Girls on The Move. This means that they have been taught the necessary skills to help them to assist or lead others in a dance/physical activity session. The dance leader who has given you this letter intends to be part of the Active Girls Day celebrations by leading others to perform the Active Girls Day Dance. We hope that you will also be part of the celebrations by supporting them at their event.
