On behalf of Friend of Jones, (FOJ) I would like to welcome you to the Jones College Prep
community. Congratulations to you and your student! All the hard work and effort your
student did to achieve academic success has paid off as he/she has been admitted to one of
the top college preparatory high schools in Chicago, Illinois and the United States.*
Let me just take a moment to say: Well Done!!!
But admittance is just the beginning. Being a student at JCP is a marvelous opportunity.
The curriculum is rigorous and the rewards for working hard can be great as JCP prepares
your child for college, leadership and life. The students at Jones come from every corner of
the City of Chicago and from every socio-economic level. We have over 100 elementary
schools sending a student to Jones in fall 2013. Many of the incoming freshmen are the
only one from their 8th grade class coming to Jones.
In the past, CPS has provided funds to selective enrollment high schools to host various
“Freshman Connection” summer programs to address the special needs in-coming freshmen
to these schools face: i.e. long distance of travel, being the only student from their
elementary school, variable levels of academic rigor between the elementary schools.
These programs in the past have helped to pave the way to success for past freshmen by
allowing the students to make friends, find their way to and from the school, and to
discover the academic standards expected of them when they start in late August. CPS is
no longer funding these types of summer programs, but due to the over- whelming positive
feedback we have received from the upper classmen on how much Freshman Connection
meant to them, Friends of Jones has decided to fund Freshman Connection for the
Class of 2017. FOJ’s estimated cost per student is $225.00. We are asking parents to
donate as much as possible to FOJ to help offset the costs for their own and other students.
Any amount you are able to give will help FOJ provide this vital program to the JCP Class
of 2016. FOJ is providing this experience to all incoming freshmen regardless of family
ability to donate.
