Bristol Community Health Role Profile Job Title: Salary: Reports to: Job Purpose: Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician Band 5 Team Leader To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support administration of medicines and prescription pathways Key Responsibilities: The postholder will work with the wider healthcare and prison team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, particularly in the delivery of medicines management systems Safely administer medicine according to Bristol Community Health Medicines Management Policy and local Standard Operating Procedures Supervise and support all staff in the process of medicines administration Work within other areas of the wider pharmacy team in order to meet needs of service Identify opportunities for development through the individual performance review process and take relevant action to achieve objectives Partake in clinical supervision in line with organisational policy To supervise and administer and supply medication as necessary, observing effects and side effects, regularly updating knowledge of commonly prescribed medicines To deal with the storage and administration of drugs in accordance with legal requirements, local policies and procedures To ensure that the management of all medicines, including controlled drugs, is in accordance with appropriate medicines legislation, standard operating procedures and policies To liaise with pharmacy suppliers to ensure the accurate and timely supply of stock and non-stock pharmaceuticals for allocated clinical areas To contribute to, and participate in, clinical audit as appropriate To assist in resolving problems involving the prescribing, administration, and operational aspects of medicines management Identify potential problems regarding the lack of availability of medicines for individual prescriptions and stock medication, and where appropriate, seeking advice on suitable alternatives or agreed delivery timetable To assist in ensuring that systems and processes for providing for leave/release medication and the management of ‘in possession’ medicines are safe and effective Assist in the management of repeat prescriptions Provide brief advice to patients about their medicines Assist in the training of other healthcare staff, in medicines Skills Specification: Experience: Knowledge and qualifications: management, as required Complete medicines reconciliations for patients and assess patients’ own medication for re-use Support pharmacist-led clinics by identifying patients suitable for medicines-use reviews and updating clinic waiting lists where appropriate A high level of both written and verbal communication Able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of agencies IT literacy, including input of data onto clinical IT systems, use of email and Microsoft Office applications High level of attention to detail To be responsible for own continuing professional development in order to continue to update pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge and skills Experience of working within a pharmacy team setting Experience of developing relationships with external agencies and organisations Experience of working across organisational boundaries within health or social care Registered Pharmacy Technician On-going training and commitment to development An understanding of team dynamics, including cross-agency and partnership working This role profile is not exhaustive and you may be directed to complete other tasks as required.
