Piney Orchard Elementary School PTA Minutes General Membership Meeting (Back To School Night) August 28, 2014 I. Announcements President Ann Greenawalt calls meeting to order at 6:05pm, establishes quorum, introduces herself, presents background on POES PTA, its achievements in 2013-14 and goals in 2014-15. Goals in 2014-15 include increasing membership to 400, launching social media communication, presenting $10K Technology Grant to school, completing Project Playground, supporting classroom enrichment (i.e. Field Trips, BrainPOP, Accelerated Reading) and reaching out to new and military POES families. Treasurer Meryl Tseng presents basics of proposed 2014-15 Budget (attached). II. Motions Motion made and seconded to approve minutes of previous General Assembly Meeting (attached) held on May 15, 2014. Motion unanimously approved. Motion made and seconded to approve 2014-15 Operating Budget (short version, attached). Floor opened, no questions or comments. Motion unanimously approved. Motion made and seconded to approve 2014-15 Playground Budget (short version, attached). Floor opened, question re: cost of playground (Greenawalt answer: approximately $60K), question re: county giving money for playground replacement (Greenawalt answer: no). Motion unanimously approved. III. Presentations Becky Davis presents mission and status of Project Playground, including sponsorship and volunteer opportunities. OFFICER REPORTS President Greenawalt reviews Mission of PTA. Announces $10,000 Tech Grant presented to POES on behalf of PTA, ongoing membership drive and need for Yearbook Chair. Treasurer Treasurer Meryl Tseng states 2013-14 audit completed in July, 2014-15 Operating and Playground Budgets approved at previous General Membership Meeting. Gives brief overview and current balances for each account. Makes motion to move $455 from AACPS Music Camp Scholarship line to pay for half cost of 130 student subscriptions to First in Math for 3rd Grade. Short discussion, motion passes. Administrator Principal Karen Bailey announces addition of many new staff members over summer, more diverse faculty. Thanks PTA for financial support regarding tech grant, advises goal is Smart Board in every classroom. COMMITTEE REPORTS Membership – Deanne Carris 311 members to date. 103 indicate on membership form willingness to volunteer. Project Playground – Abbey Boudreau (for Becky Davis) Project 60% funded, goal is full funding by end of school year (approx. $24,000 to go). All paperwork submitted. Sponsorship Packets and Brick Program rolling. Building and Grounds – Ann Greenawalt (for Laura Diamond) Fall Clean-Up Day is Sept 27, 1-4PM. Committee also working on recycling and traffic issues. Fundraising – Ann Greenawalt (for Jill Alexis and Aileen Zaversnik) Over 130 people attended POES Night at Skate Zone. KidStuff Coupon Books Fundraiser going on now. POES Night at Greene Turtle is Nov 12. Hospitality – Kristin Osborn New chair gives overview of committee, solicits volunteers. Mrs Beall wins classroom contest, Kindergarten wins grade level contest. Project Playground – Abbey Boudreau (for Becky Davis) Need $10K for installation (not including brick installation). 20 bricks sold so far during Pave the Path fundraiser, generating ideas for sales including extending purchase deadline. Spirit Wear – Vikki Byerly Over $573 raised for Project Playground. Looking into selling online, changing up merchandise colors/styles. Will sell magnets at school events. Target date for Spirit Wear delivery to teachers is Dec 1. Military Family Outreach – Hollie Parrish Developing online repository of all resources available to military families.
