All Sir Knights should try to attend and get involved. The Fourth Degree What is the purpose of the Fourth Degree? The degree is a patriotic degree; consequently, it clearly indicates we should do everything possible to support our nation, such as supporting our veterans as well as our active military. Also, there are many ways we can support patriotism, individually and as an assembly. Also, the Color Corp is another important role of the Fourth Degree. It can be said it is largely ceremonial, but, in reality, participation of the Color Corp at Confirmations, Ordinations and other Church Ceremonies and Masses adds greatly to the beauty of the particular ceremony. You have to be a participant to feel the warmth of the Congregation towards the Color Corp. Confirmants have remarked long after their confirmation of when they were confirmed by the Bishop and those fellows with the funny hats were there. They do remember. I hope that you and your families enjoyed a most happy and blessed Easter. Our Color Corps has been very busy over the last few months attending many confirmations throughout the Diocese, and we witnessed a wonderful turnout for the Holy Thursday services and adoration. My special thanks to all who gave their time to this most sacred duty and a sincere welcome and shout-out to two of our newest members, Otto Heston and Antonio Rowan, for a job well done. On April 27th Pope Francis canonized two of his predecessors, Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. What a momentous day for all Catholics. Pope Francis continues to point our Church in a positive direction and brings a special excitement to being a Catholic. He has given our faith a super shot in the arm to which I am so grateful. To commemorate this blessed event St. Joseph’s Polish Church in Camden held a special Mass which was celebrated by Bishop Sullivan. It was a true honor for our Color Corps members and for other Corps members from all over southern New Jersey to attend the Mass and escort our Bishop. The homily delivered by Bishop Sullivan was so very moving and spiritual. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to participate in this event. As always, I want to recognize our Color Corps Commander, Barry Start, for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the many events throughout our diocese. We have experienced a good attendance for most call-outs. I urge anyone considering joining the Color Corps to contact Barry to learn more about the duties and responsibilities of the Corps, and what an honor it is to represent our faith at so many functions throughout the Camden Diocese. On May 3rd our Assembly was invited to attend the Veteran’s Haven Spring Fling which was an event to recognize the groups that support the homeless vets residing at Veteran’s Haven throughout the year. Bishop Schad Assembly was honored for our service to the facility. We had a great turn out and my wife, Diana, and I enjoyed the company of Al and Phyllis Camaione, Rich and Kathy Bevilacqua, Dan and Norma McHugh, Barry Start, Harry Bocchino, Alfred Sulpizi and Andy Rescinito. Since I’m on the subject of veterans, please remember our sponsored BINGO afternoon which is scheduled for May 24th at 2:00pm at the Vineland Veteran’s Home. We will probably car pool from the Parish Center between 12:30 and 12:45. As an added “bonus” the Military Support Group of New Jersey has donated some beautiful afghans and lap blankets that we can use as prizes for the BINGO game. I hope you can join us. Wives are welcome. Please continue to keep our Purser, Jim Quigley, in your prayers. Joe Pettineo, Sr., Harry Bocchino, Ron Miller and I went to see Jim in the hospital on May 6th. He is feeling somewhat better and was glad to have us visit. We, too, were glad to see him in good spirits! Special thanks to Joe Russo for planning yet another successful bus trip for June to “experience” Moses at the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster County. The trip is sold out! I want to also thank Joe for coordinating the Patriotic Americanism Awards that will be presented to students attending Our Lady of Hope School on June 6th and St. Teresa’s Regional School in Runnemede on June 10th. Wow, it’s been quite busy and there is so much more to do! Thank you for all your continued support and dedication to our mission. Remember, you are the core to this Assembly…..let’s keep it vibrant!
