COLLEGE CARNIVAL AND BINGO: INSTRUCTIONS Host a college carnival for students and families, with traditional carnival games with a college twist. Encourage participants to learn about college in a fun way! o Ask high school students, parents and community groups to serve as volunteers. Recruit one lead person or group for each booth. o Invite local colleges to join as well! Booths can be of three types: o FOOD: cotton candy, popcorn machine, etc. o CRAFTS: make a college pennant, face painting, make a beaded bracelet with college colors, etc. o GAMES: cake walk (with college fight songs), BINGO, ring toss, bean bag toss, balloon toss, ping-pong, mini golf, etc. Each of these booths are affiliated with a college. Students must answer a simple question (see pages 2-8) about the college before they can play. The carnival can also serve as a fundraiser by selling tickets (see page 9) to participate in games, crafts, and purchase food. o Students and parents can earn tickets ahead of time by participating in other GEAR UP or college readiness activities including attending college visits or FAFSA workshops. Have a raffle with college gear throughout the night! Consider pre-teaching activities to middle school students using BINGO or another game, so that they are familiar with the material ahead of time and can showcase knowledge with siblings and parents.
