The School
Sarah Bonnell School is an 11-16 school for girls with 1200 students on roll and is
situated in the centre of Stratford in the London Borough of Newham. Newham has
one of the highest rates of deprivation in the country and is a diverse community with
a large percentage of its population under the age of 25. Over 50% of our students
are eligible for Pupil Premium Grant.
The school was founded in 1769 and is one of the oldest schools for girls in the
country: we are very proud of our history. Our vision is to provide outstanding
opportunities for all students which ensure they are well equipped to meet the
challenges of education, work and life in an ever-changing world.
Our students are confident, articulate and aspirational; Student Leadership is a
strength in the school.
We are an inclusive school with an atmosphere of mutual respect. We have the
highest expectations in all that we do, and value and celebrate the achievement of all
students in many areas of school life. We celebrate our diversity and the rich cultural
background of our community.
We have recently gained specialism quality mark from SSAT in World Languages
and Expressive Arts.
Sarah Bonnell has a caring and supportive ethos and is committed to maintaining
and developing the existing partnerships with parents/carers and the community,
which are essential to the success of our students. We have a very active and
supportive Governing Body who play a crucial role in monitoring and challenging our
work.
We have been on a rapid improvement trajectory which has been sustained over the
last 3 years and which has seen our Value Added rise from 1007 to 1030 in 2014.
This has been a result of a constant drive on Teaching and Learning to ensure the
best possible outcomes for our students. As a school we use the SSAT TEEP
(Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Programme) model as a framework for
Teaching and Learning.
We are fortunate to have professional and dedicated teaching and support staff
teams at Sarah Bonnell who work hard to improve the life chances of our young
