Suggested Resources for Learning More about the Engineering Design Process American Society of Engineering Educators (ASEE) web site to support K-12 engineering. Lesson plans and activities are available at no cost. Most are standards linked, and have all of the worksheets. They are organized by grade level. You can also subscribe to a monthly newsletter. http://teachers.egfi-k12.org/ http://teachers.egfi-k12.org/straw-rocket-aeronautics/ brings you to a 40-40 min. activity on paper rockets Teach Engineering is a web resource for K-12 engineering activities. They are sortable by grade and content. There is considerable variation in the quality of the lessons but there are many excellent activities and lesson plans available. http://www.teachengineering.org/ Try Engineering is another good resource for activities in both science and engineering. Not as sortable as some but some very good activities. http://www.tryengineering.org/lesson.php?&showall=1 Discover Engineering has good background on engineering and a few activities. Has some science related games too. http://www.discoverengineering.org/ National Science Foundation site has a listing of major sites offering activities and lessons in engineering. In most cases the activities in all the sciences as well as engineering. These tend to be well tested and supported. http://www.nsf.gov/news/classroom/engineering.jsp Teachers Domain has a wide range of activities in science and engineering. You need to register for this site but it is free and they don’t send out many emails following up. I use some of their videos as starters. http://www.teachersdomain.org/browse/?fq_hierarchy=k12.sci.engin IDEO Video on Engineering Design (current) http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7t4Bhk9RDzYAwnlXNyoA?p=IDEO%20design%20video&fr2=sbtop&fr=yfp-t-900 Original Front Line video on Design: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M66ZU2PCIcM Lessoncast.org site… requires registration but has good info and hints on different aspects of teaching. There are a few general descriptions of activities but this is mostly a teacher PD site http://lessoncast.org Marshmallow challenge is an example… 45 min for early grades http://lessoncast.org/lesson/marshmallow-challenge-intro-to-engineering-practices/ Supplies: I probably get 90% of my supplies from one of these 3 places http://www.kelvin.com/ http://www.pitsco.com/store/ http://www.iasco-tesco.com/
