3rd Quarter Project
Roaring 20’s
Directions:
a. Using the topics listed below, you will be assigned two topics in which your group will
research the objectives related to those topics.
b. You will also need to summarize the topics that you are NOT “researching” and
presenting.
c. Regardless of the topics assigned you are to create EITHER a Power Point presentation,
a Timeliner presentation, an inspirations web, or a Photo story presentation about the
TWO major topics assigned to your group.
d. The content found in your presentation should include:
1. Answers to objectives about the TWO assigned topics
2. Provide graphics (pictures, animation, slide design, videos charts, etc…)
3. Connections must be made between the two topics
4. Important dates and people surrounding the topics should be included (Who,
What, When, Where, How, and Why)
e. Each group will provide a guided note sheet for the other students to complete during
the presentation. This sheet must follow the order of your presentation.

OBJECTIVES:
Topic 1- Impacts of New Inventions (radio, “talkie” movies, appliances)
OBJECTIVES

Identify the new inventions of the 1920’s
Explain the impact these inventions had on America both socially (think
people) and economically (think businesses)
 Predict the problems that could occur from using “on-credit” (buy now and
pay later) buying of the above new inventions
Topic 2- The Automobile
OBJECTIVES



Identify how the assembly line impacted the sale of the automobile
Explain the impact the automobile had on the way people lived and
traveled
Identify and describe the new industries (businesses) created as a result of
the automobile
Topic 3- The Harlem Renaissance
OBJECTIVES



Define Harlem Renaissance
Explain the reasons for the movement of African Americans to Harlem
Identify 3 famous writers, artists, or poets of the Harlem Renaissance (any
three)
Topic 4- The Red Scare
OBJECTIVES
 Define the Red Scare
 Identify the impacts of the Red Scare on immigration and society as a whole
 Provide one example of an injustice that came out of the Red Scare
Topic 5- The Scopes Trial
OBJECTIVES
 Explain the moral conflict surrounding the Scopes Trial
 Define Darwinism (Theory of Evolution)
 Explain the religious point of view (creationism)
 How does the result of the trial show intolerance (narrow-mindedness)
Topic 6- The Sacco and Vanzetti Trial
OBJECTIVES
 Identify the reasons for the arrest and trial of Sacco and Vanzetti
 Explain how prejudice and bigotry impacted the outcome of the trial
 Analyze the facts of the case (all evidence used and witness testimony)
Topic 7- Prohibition
OBJECTIVES





Define prohibition
Identify methods/ways people circumvented (got around) prohibition laws
Explain how prohibition led to organized crime
Compare and contrast the positive and negative effects of prohibition on
society
Identify the amendment that repealed the 18th amendment
Topic 8- Changes in Women
OBJECTIVES
 Define flapper
 List and describe three way women’s roles changed during the 1920’s
 Explain how the behavior of women changed in the 1920’s
Topic 9- Sports, Writers, Heroes, and Actors
OBJECTIVES




Identify the key athletes, actors, and writers of the 1920’s
Explain the themes of the writers in the 20’s
Provide background information on the writers/sports figures
How did they change the way people spent their free time
Topic 10- Fads and Fashion
OBJECTIVES



Define a fad and provide examples
Identify new forms of fashion that were popular in the 1920’s
Compare and contrast fads of the 20’s to fads of today (do you see any
similarities and what difference are there)
NOTE 1: For all topics listed above, not only are you to answer the objectives, but you are also to
include important dates and people surrounding the topics (Who, What, When, Where, How,
and Why).
NOTE 2: You must also provide a summary of the other 8 topics on a word document. Each
topic should have a summary that is ½ a page in length, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12
font. This will total 4 pages in length.
